Sorcerer's have poisoned my soul!!!

I was once one of the biggest fans of Wizards, and prepared magic classes out there, and hopefully still am. But I've recently been playing a sorcerer, and really got used to being able to cast what I wanted, when I wanted it.

Now 3.5 is out, and were gonna be starting a new game in a few weeks. With the campaign setting being Forgotten Realms, I naturally want to be a Specialist Wizard, but I'm so used to having more spells/day at my disposal along with Simple Weapons, that I have myself wondering what to do. I'd like to get back to my pure wizardry roots, but my soul has been poisoned by the temptations of spontanaity.

Not to mention the alterations of specialization, spells, and spell focus. My mind is clouded, and I seek your council through these dark times...

I llike wizards for the versitility they bring to the table. Want to know 100 different spells? It's the wizard.

Want to be able to cast any spell you know? It's the sorcerer.

I've always enjoyed Monte's alternative sorcerer in BoEM II though. A little tougher physically with an emphasis on interaction and action.

I say go with the wizard for the rp value. You want to be a specialist because its forgotten realms, so be a specialist.

Yes, the powers of the sorceror are great and tempting indeed. But here's what the wizards get, as you know:

higher level spells quicker

so many, many more spells. No limit to spells known. (wowzer, when compared with the little selection of sorceror)

higher DCs and whatnot for spells in the specialists school.

Better item-creation abilities.

Aloofness of being a wizard instead of this newfangled sorcerory.

Now, isn't all that better than being able to cast a maximized empowered fireball at whim?

Oh yeah. Hi. I'm new here. Been lurking for a few months now.

Hey, the sorceror has huge amounts of rp value too, just in a different way, I see them as relating to the wizard as reclusive rangers or rogues relate to fighters

Yes, I think I need to take you guys' advice, and get back to my roots. I think Faerun could use another Shadow Mage. Yes, I owe it to myself and the world to do this. We feel its time we're set free, because the years have have been long, and tedious. We will finally bath in Lan's...er...our enemy's blood. But much time has passed, ponder this subject I must, and to our goals find a way I shall.

Wizards never stop learning and aquiring, they can learn every spell, and now at half price.

Plus they get more feats and bonus scribe scroll so use them, with a wand or scrolls you can cast as much as a sorcerer.

...Shadow Adept? Sounds good... I think all three 'primary' schools have meen expanded in 3.5 ;). But why not a sorcerous shadow adept? Somehow the whole shadow weave stuff just smacks of spontaneous casting/shaping to me.

Because sorcerers are evil...hehe, nah, I think I'm just gonna stick with Wizard. I just can't decide what to take as my two prohibited schools. I may just take Evocation and Transmutation as prohibited. What do ya'll think?
