D&D 5E sorcerous eldritch knights

the issue I see here is that it doesn't really address the sorcerer's class features, especially metamagic. THat's where a lot of the oomph of a sorcerer happens. Of course that may have been the intent, as folding in those things might make the result overpowered.

Sorcerer's abjuration is substantially weaker than wizard. No Absorb Elements, no Protection from Evil. Missing a few other spells that are good for EK, like Magic Weapon and Vampiric Touch.

You're basically constraining the EK's combat ability and boosting its role in the social pillar.

There's a tiefling EK in my current game, and I just let him use Cha as his stat and there haven't been any issues. He's a gladiator, so the extra vibrant personality fits. Added bonus, his bonded weapons were a net and a fake leg for a long time!

The lack of Absorb Elements is both unfortunate and inexplicable, given the dragon sorcerer's heavy elemental affinity. As a DM I allow Absorb Elements for sorcerers.

I could see houseruling a straight ability swap to charisma if a player wanted.

I myself also created a barbarian archetype I called Ragecaster that was loosely based on the Bloodrager from Pathfinder for a player (I ended up making a second archetype that was bloodline related for her to pick between due to balance reasons). If I recall correctly, I gave them the war caster ability from Eldritch knight, and used the same chart for spells, with the exception of they used the sorcerer list from the evocation and transmutation schools (it seemed more "barbarian-y" considering I figured the fighter would be more about protecting and the raging guy flinging fireballs would be more likely to grow claws and fangs than shield himself). I athink I also allowed them to pick from paladin list on the levels where they could select any spell school, though I was on the fence about it.

I gave them some other abilities instead of the other stuff an Eldritch Knight though.

You could 1/3 Sorcery points, I guess, starting with 1 at level 1 to 6 at level 18. Give a couple of metamagics instead of the EK features. Plus something that points a little to dragon or wild magic origin. Or another origin, as that's something 5E needs more of!

EG Draconic Sorcerous Knight
Level:
3. Spellcasting, Sorcerer based, make a new list to fit what you feel right. 1 Sorcery point (no flexible spellcasting) and 1 metamagic (1 more at 11 and 19). Choose your ancestry, but no effect yet.
6. Elemental Affinity
14. Dragon Wings
18. Improved War Magic

Completely off the top of my head!

I haven't looked at the list to see this would work better, but....

You could remove abjuration and add in transmutation. Seems to fit, thematically, with sorcerer.
