Sort of legal question

Ah well. Wasn't expecting such serious responses, even though my question was genuine. She has a habit of making weird career choices - currently, some kind of hybrid pirate rock star forensic detective. A few years ago, she gave a fair description of necromancy as something she wanted to pursue. Should I be worried? She does not read fantasy (I should say did not, she has since started Harry Potter).

So my sister says she wants be a pirate, see? She says there's nothing stopping her because there are no laws in the open ocean. I pointed out that I suspect the laws of wherever a ship is registered out of apply when you are aboard (and taking their stuff, perhaps). Anyone care to comment?

16 now, 14ish when she wanted undead servants. Where does that land on the scale?

Pirate? That's nothing. When I was 16, I wanted to be a lawyer...that's a scary career. Thank goodness I got some sense knocked into me and decided to pursue a more useless degree; theatre.

I would think being a pirate would be cool, but only a Bucaneer type pirate, not a modern type pirate.

At sixteen, she's starting to outgrow the 'crazy careers' stage. She'll move into more realistic career choices; just be glad she never fixated on 'go-go' dancer, as a friend of mine did at age 11.

She may, as someone mentioned, just be pulling your chain. The necromancy/undead thing is perfectly normal. It's a common way for people to begin to understand mortality. That's why YA novels are filled with gore, death and dying people, vampires, horrible tragedies, etc...

Just try reading Lurlene McDaniels, and you'll rapidly decide undead and piracy are healthy alternatives.

Well, pirate is more of a sideline to the rock star/forensic bit. She's been pretty consistent so far this year. Still, I ain't holding my breath.

Everyone thought the idea that she might be pulling my leg was pretty funny.
