I checked I'm the DM and I Can Do What I Want. Just give the NPC fast healing 1 and be done with it.

There is a "Healing Salve" which is an alchimcal mixture out of one of the 3.0 splat books, Tome & Blood . Its 50 gp and it heals 1d8.

Vine Oil out of Dragon 301, 50 gp: Anesthetic oil that smells like fish. For one hour, the subject can continue to function normally down to –5 hp. At –6 hp or less, the subject falls unconscious. For 24 hours after the oil has been used, the subject cannot stabilize without help.

But for more information, go to crystalkeep.com, look under d20 D&D either the 3.0 or 3.5 equipment and do a Find for "Alchemy". You shoul get a good list from there.

What level was the anti-magic aura?

That is what level caster - IIRC it requires a CL check to neutralize a magic item, it is not automatic.

So a higher CL magic item would work (only be more expensive).
