D&D 5E Speculation on the Barbarian DD Next Class

Phaezen

First Post
Maybe it was never seen in core, but it was definitely seen in D&D.

Is there such a thing as "never before seen in D&D class" at all?

Did they really announce something like that?

People seem to be misinterpreting this statement by Mike Mearls:

"D&D Next class that has not yet appeared in the D&D Next public playtest." from this article: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4news/20130110 under the heading Exclusive First Looks

I saw a quick report on the Barbarian. From the poster's recollection, his character had a Rage ability, took half damage from blunt, slashing, and piercing attacks, had increased movement, and could give himself advantage in combat at the expense of allowing his enemies advantage against him. He could not remember any other details, but that sounds interesting.

On Twitter Mike Mearls gave a quick description
class is built on rage, with more uses and more benefits of it with higher levels, plus a reckless attack usable when not raging

Not much to go on, though more interesting was he also mentioned that we'll get an updated packet tomorrow with the barbarian. The reckless attack sounds like what Ebon Shar described as "could give himself advantage in combat at the expense of allowing his enemies advantage against him."
