OOC: Hi! I'm still waiting to see the thunderwave spell results. I think the bang with cause a stalactite shower on the critters, not the cave to collapse because the shockwave will hit the pillars, not the roof.

Usually, if I got a surprise round, I should be able to take my turn moving back to the rest of the group with a blade ward spell just in case.

Can I still do it or should I reconsider since others said they will enter the cave and shoot the beasts ?

GM: Ah, I thought you were just considering the thunderwavein OOC peterka99. Didn't realize you were actually casting it! OK then...

No one is actually in the chamber yet, just firing from the passageway into the chamber. So you had blade ward cast in advance while you guys were planning what to do, and during the surprise round you are stepping in to cast thunderwave and then retreating back into the passageway. Got it.

Also, when you cast a spell, it would be great to include the spell save DC?

EDIT: I found it. DC 12.

Gunpowder smoke is strong from Blaise's shot in the humid cave; again, the shadows shift, confirming that while most of you cannot see the nature of the threat guarding Francois L'Ollonais' treasure, it is nevertheless present in the gloom. The arcane words issuing from Etienne's mouth reach a fever pitch, the stones rattling around you as a burst of titrated sound erupts from his fingertips, cracking stalactites and knocking one of the "boulders" backward, which soon writhes in agony, revealing itself to be a pallid, slimy, worm-like creature the size of a human, its mouth a sickening tangle of tentacles and hooked jaws.

Etienne barely manages to get back to his post in time, stones pelting his magical warding, as several stalactites crash down upon the cavern. A shrieking chorus of wailing pain issues from the worm-like monstrosities.

GM: Ok peterka99 I'm assuming you're targeting Grick #2 and the Grick Alpha; roll your thunderwave damage!

Also, you would take 7 damage from the stalactites, but your blade ward reduces that to just 3 piercing damage.

GM: Grick #2 DC 12 Con save vs. thunderwave _: 1D20+0 = [6]+0 = 6 fails, takes full 2d8 and pushed back 10 feet

Grick Alpha DC 12 Con save vs. thunderwave _: 1D20+2 = [20]+2 = 22 succeeds, takes half of that 2d8, not pushed

Environmental effect (d100): 1-50 collapsing roof, 51-75 stalactites drop and difficult terrain, 76-100 no effect.
_: 1D100 = [65] = 65 stalactites drop

Stalactite damage vs. Etienne and all Gricks _: 2D6 = [1, 6] = 7 7 piercing damage

The area marked in grey on the map is now difficult terrain.

OOC: The spell damage is average 8+1= 9

Etienne then start to shout- a mighty Indian War Cry singed from the dawn of ages, throughout the vast dark northern continent. He doesn't except the critters to cower in fear- no- It is just intented to raise his own morale and his allies'.

The critters have bodies. Well, lot of meat to slash with a tomahawk. He runs to the biggest and tries to grapple it.

OOC: This is my bonus action. The grapple result is 11+8=19; resisted by enemy's athletics or strength + 1d20. Tavern brawler feat allows me then to hit with an action...

He then hit with his hatchet, hoping the thing will not be able to dodge and evade his grasp with its great strength. At least it will void the creature camouflage....

OOC: First hit miss with a 5 (11 total). If given advantage because of the grapple (as per my feat), the second roll is 12+6=18, barely hit. In case I hit, I got 5+4 = 9 damage points.

Rocks clatter underfoot as Etienne engages the 12-foot long putrid bluish worm. As soon as he wraps an arm around its carapace, the worm rises up from the stone debris, lifting Etienne bodily off his feet. Thrashing this way and that, it is unable to throw off the tenacious fur trader, wailing in a high-pitched tone as Etienne's tomahawk draws viscous black blood.

GM: Grick Alpha DC 19 Strength check vs. grapple _: 1D20+4 = [6]+4 = 10 it's grappled!

And it's now quite visible to all PCs.

Grick Alpha AC 18
Grick Alpha HP 75 68 64 55

Etienne roars: "Fine! I'm no longer on the ground! Nia please entangle them otherwise i'll get submerged by snails! I'll try to pin it to the ground if your spell misses!"

Nia makes an irritated sound with her tongue against the top of her mouth.

"I already have some of dem. I won't let dem go to try to get dem all. Maybe next time you tink before you grab someting bigger den you, no? And be CAREFUL wit' dat tunder magic! You'll bury de treasure along wit' de rest of us like dat!"

She puts her staff aside and with quick, sure movements produces a bow and brings an arrow to nock. Fortunately, she had ways of attacking that would not release the prisoners of the kelp.

(Fire!) [roll0] to hit for [roll1]

OOC: Well, the Alpha Grick is both grappled and entangled- the critter needs 2 rolls to be un-entangled AND unpinned. Should it give it a disadvantage if it try to engage an enemy in melee ?

Etienne says: "OK. I just wanna save my scalp! There are still 2 other camouflaged critters on both sides of the big one! One is entangled and the other not!"
