I came up with a home brew system for spell research and magic item creation. I was wondering if there were any source books that had a well written and simple system for spell research and item creation.
I've never been a fan of taking the item creation feat, and if the character has the XP/gold they automatically get the item (if they have caster level pre-reqs) There's always the chance of failure, breakthroughs, etc...
I heard Unearthed Arcana has some optional rules for item creation. Might check it out.
