Spells using a Point Pool?

Whoa whoa whoa, you're claiming that people form credible knowledge bases before deciding what they do or don't like and what's good or bad for the world?
I think he's claiming that 4e haters wouldn't playtest for weeks because they wanted more info before making a decision. They'd playtest for weeks to gather ammunition.

But either way, the guy the OP talked to smells rather fishy to me.

I note that there were talks about a spell pool; not spell points.

English is not my first language, but I think that a system not unlike the maneuvers from Tome of Battle used for "per encounter" spells/powers would ineed have a "spell pool" : a pool a spells that can each be used once until the end of the encounter, or until you take a special action to refresh them.

I don't buy it. Everyone knows that a real 4e hater would playtest for weeks on end so they'd have something to complain about.

QFT. Also, a spellpoint system makes no sense if wizards has already mentioned moving many abilities to a per encounter model.

I noticed this as well. The OP mentions in the title a "point pool," but in his actual post, he talks about a spell pool and a spell point pool.

I for one would like some clarification.

What actually did the supposed playtester mention?

Why couldn't you have both systems in place at the same time? I seem to recall that spell use would be divided into several tiers, including per encounter abilities and others.

Can you ask him to write a playtest report on Gleemax? :D

Seriously it would be nice to get the other side, it's hard to form an opinion when all you get is hype.

If the story is true, the ex-playtester might have given himself away to WotC... how many groups could possibly have stopped just after one week? ;)

Hehe, you guys suck at Sense Motive. Everyone's just lying for the fun of it, aren't they? Like that guy from Hungary was lying? Well, turns out most people don't lie unless they have a reason. Sorry to rain on the spectics' parade.

What's more likely is that the facts have gotten garbled as they filtered through the poster, just as they did with that whole "+3 at ability 10" fiasco. We don't know if it's spell points or spell pool. I'm sure that whatever it is, it'll be better than the old stuff.

True!!!

I'd love spell points, as psionics... But I'm sure magic won't work like that.
Anyway, any thing is better than this horrid Vancian spell preparation system.
