[spoiler] Spike?

Well, they've hardly been consistant before. Sometimes they vamp face, sometimes they don't, sometimes sunlight poofs instantly, sometimes they have some time.

And sometimes Angel can enjoy the lovely western exposure in his original apartment/office in LA. :D

I think the main reason for not putting his game face on is because they want the audience to identify with him. IMO, more of a story/thematic thing than an "in-character" thing.

Agreed. It becomes a 'been there, done that' situation. <SNIP>

I have a lot of faith in Joss on this one. Nothing about Spike has ever been old hat. He's got one of the more brilliant characters in the history of TV, IMO.

The transformation from short term bad guy to long term character is hard to make, and they did a masterful job. Obviously, Spike needed to change again to stay with the show, as the lovesick chippy was starting to get thin. And I'm quite looking forward to whatever they come up with next.

Well, that's part of the source of my apprehension: it's not Joss I'm really trusting here, it's Marti Noxon, since Joss is now getting spread pretty thin, with three shows at one time. And Marti, I'm not so sure about. But I'm willing to wait and see.

After all, the ending to this season of Buffy was much more rewarding then Angel, to me.

Maybe the trial wasn't specifically a "Vampire, get through this and you get your soul back" thing, but a more general "Petitioner, get through this and you get a wish" thing.

Spike's just the first vampire that showed up, succeeded, and asked for his soul back. And he only thought of it because of his association with Angel & Buffy.

I wonder what Spike is going to have been doing for the three months between the finale & the new season's start. (Unless Spike's bits in the finale were actually heavily time-shifted, and represent things that happened weeks later than Willow's little Dark Phoenix freak out; that's possible, too, I suppose.)

I agree, WizarDru. I think that Joss is going to devote most of his attention if not all toward the launching of his new show (Firefly) on FOX this Fall, which was originally a midseason replacement until some suit-and-tie idiot in the Fox programming department decided to cancel Dark Angel. What a stupid bonehead move that was, especially when there is no more The X-Files.

How DARE you acusse a suit of having a brain! It's common knowledge that they're a bunch of mindless idiots who don't know what they're doing.

I ill yet again put fourth my theory that he will become a Watcher when Dawn becomes a Slayer...she will come of age (in Slayer terms) this season, so expect her powers to staryt to develop.
Remember what Buffy said in the tomb....She started crying, then told Dawn "I have seen the woman that you will become. You will be beautiful, and you will be powerful. There is so much that I have to show you." 9Thi aso works because Dawn as Slayer is the logical inverse of Buffy as Key)
Spike has always been dawn's protector and farther figure, and complements her dark side well.
It would actually be quite interesting to see Dawn and Buffy as Slayers at the same time. The writers could certainly play off of the law /chaos axis issues.

The only way Dawn could become a Slayer would be if Faith or Buffy died. Technically there's only supposed to be one, but Buffy's multiple deaths have thrown a wrench in the works. Faith may be in jail, but she is still a Slayer....the most recent one, in fact, and IMHO the one who holds the trigger to the next one.

p.s. fourth is spelled "forth" in this context

Ah, but there is clearly a mystical link between the two. After all, the death of Buffy was enough to close off the nexus that would normally only have been closed by Dawn's death. It's possible that the link works both ways, and gives Dawn some of Buffy's slayerness.

In theory, they could, but in practice, the WB has firmly said no. As such, there are no cross-overs planned and Joss and company have gone so far as to say, "It's not happening."

Maybe if Angel finds its way to UPN before it finishes it's run - maybe. They are contractually obligated to pick up the show if the WB dumps it before Joss & Company are finished with it.

They are actually only obligated to pick up Angel if the WB cancels it while Buffy is still running. If this is indeed the last season of Buffy (7th), then that guarantee expires after this season (Angel's 4th).
