[SPOILERS]Angel 5.1 Discussion

Eve and Harmony? They work for me and make sense for the show.

Spike? Bring it on.

W&H screwing with Angel? Fo' sure.

Gunn's new role? Cool and creepy. He was changed before he got in the chair. He's also gotten thinner. :p

Angel fight? Fun. I knew he would have to clash with the muscle of W&H sometime, just not in the opener.

Personal Note: Any show with the bartender from Fight Club in it has to be good.

Personal Note 2: Are there any other villains on TV right now that you love to hate more than W&H and Arvin Sloan from Alias?

Details for those of us denied the WB? Please?

Who is Eve? Muscle of W&H? Gunn is a lawyer now, and more importantly what is creepy about this? Did the panther somehow give him a law degree?

As if being a lawer wasn't creepy enough. I wonder if W&H did put anything subliminal in Gunn's brain that he doesn't even know about, and that can't be detected by Lorne (if they try), but can be triggered by the Senior Partners.

When Gunn left for the "tailor", did anyone else catch the panther hidden in the cut scene? They just kind of snuck it in, I had to rewind to make sure I saw it. Pretty cool.

I most certainly caught it. I actually thought it was kinda obvious but it did flash for just a bit.

But yes - Gunn now has full knowledge of the legal system. Eve is the liason between the Senior Partners and Angel/the LA office. The muscle of W&H was the black ops folks who Angel doesn't like too much as they like to kill children.

Can ANYONE please explain to me how some of you were watching Angel but not Buffy?
I just don't get it.
They have constant crossovers, the same creative teams, half of the same characters...
it just dont make any sense to my poor little head.

I can almost understand liking Angel and Buffy but not Firefly or vice-versa if you have genre issues, but Angel without Buffy? Is this Bizarro-World?

Tonights show:
Spent half the night trying to remember and then looking up what happened to Harmony, cuz i VIVIDLY remember Spike staking her, but not her surviving it.

Eve is another former Boston Public student. Theyre showing up everywhere.
Like most W&H employees, she didnt impress me.

The panther told Gunn to get a lawyer-implant? I REALLY hope theres a whole lot more to this. Did it also tell him to grow some really bad hair?

Speaking of bad hair, how can anyone look at Angel without laughing? Is he TRYING to look like a dark haired Johnny Bravo?

Fred really needs to eat something. She might blow away or turn sideways and disappear.

Did Wesley do anything?

Not enough Krevlorneswath of the Deathwok clan!!!

Both fights in this episode looked higher-budget than usual, which could be a good thing except they just seemed to have a different feel than normal.

The plot for tonights episode just left me flat. It didnt seem to do much in the way of showing what the cast can and will do differently in a new situation (except Gunn) I almost wish they woulda jumped ahead 3 months so they woulda have already slid into their new positions.

I REALLY have to watch the early Angel's on DVD because I've always felt that Wolfram & Hart made no sense because I never got a grip on their motive for anything. Evil law firm is almost as silly as evil cosmetics company (see mocking in Catwoman thread). I really NEED to know what their ultimate purpose and goal is.

So there were some great line as usual and Spike's arrival should be potentially interesting but theres still a lot of kinks to be worked out with the new "direction"

Spike staked Harmony in Season 4 of Buffy, but at the time she was wearing the Ring of Amara, which made a vampire immune to ALL weaknesses. The last time Harmony was seen was in Angel season 2 or 3, when she dropped out of Sunnydale, reappeared in LA, and Cordelia tried to reform her. Harmony betrayed them all, and fell into a "vampire pyramid scheme" (Turn Two and the Rest is Food), but when they shut down the pyramid scheme, COrdy let Harm leave. Supposedly never to return.

She apparently ended up taking a secretary job at W&H about two years ago.

He promoted Harmony as Angel's assistant. :)

W&H is a multidimensional law firm that makes a profit by helping others do evil. The reason I like the direction so far this season, is that it introduces a moral quandry to the team: How do you choose the lesser evil? Is what you are doing "good" if you are heading up a division of evil to do it? How do you call yourself good when you make your living running an evil organization? It's going to get ethically and morally nasty around Angel's team this season, and I think it's an interesting change of pace. Joss hasn't kept his fans by doing the same old thing every season and getting stale; I'm anxious to see where this season takes us. :)

Final note: Angel became head of W&H last season because he shut down the evil goddess Jasmine (his own spawn, no less), and thereby stopped ultimate peace from overrunning the world. W&H thought he did such a good job saving their livelihood, that he would do well running the company. :)

One, not all of us have UPN and WB, so catching both is not always possible. Secondly, the shows were similar, but Angel was a little more viewer in some ways. For one it did not have to contend with the Buffy movie, which is still a stigma for many potential viewers, plus the language of the show was more traditional, with less of the witicisms that Buffy critics either laud, or loath. I personally loved both shows, but Angel is what got me hooked, not Buffy.

Or rather, Charisma Carpenter. purrrr

Yes, the creative teams were the same, and many of the characters came over. However, Angel was less about female empowerment and morality plays and more about good old fashioned butt kicking. Also, Charisma wasn't on Buffy any more (most important. Then, after the shift to UPN, Angel and Buffy could only have limited references to one another (contract reasons I belive). The crossovers were only really prevalent that first season of Angel, and one notable crossover in the last season. Harmony was not really a crossover, but a plot that carried over and was suitably explained to not require need of Buffy.

Oh, and yes, I am in fact, in Bizarro-World :)

How long have you been watching the shows? Have you seen the first seasons of Angel at all? More importantly did you only start watching Buffy in the latter seasons? If so, you really need to see the first few season of each. Buffy was best the first three seasons.
