The actress that plays Harley Quin is the same one from Ferris Beuller's (sp?) Day off (Ferris' girlfriend that skips school with him).

(I think).

IMDB.com confirms that. Interesting...I hadn't made the connection.

I liked...
* that they got Mark Hammill to do the voice of the Joker in the opening!
* the meteor showers remark
* the way the "Scarecrow" (heck, that's what I'm callin' him) caught Helena
* "Never send a businessman to do a psychopath's job..."

I didn't like...
* The looong narrative opening by Alfred, especially since most all of it was later mentioned in the show itself!
* Dinah's clairvoyance/mind probing power (does every superhero/supernatural show need a seer? Heck, Orcale should be able to do that sort of stuff on her own with all her computer gear & skill -- that's why she's called Oracle!!! )
* Why is Helena going to Dr. Harleen Quinzel for psychiatric care? Wouldn't the fact that she's Harley Quinn, the Joker's hench-wench, be in Batman's files, which should be accessible to Barbara/Orcale???
* The Joker's look (most of the time he looks like he has normal caucasian flesh tone, and there's something about his nose...)
* The Joker "building a criminal empire." Joker's not about empire's or control, he's all about CHAOS!!!

I'm neutral on...
* Alfred serving Barbara Gordon and keeping Wayne Manor up for Helena

i didn't mind that so much. i think Chimera's comment earlier (about Alfred) is based on the movies. Alfred in the comics has always been younger than he's portrayed in the movies

about Harley - the fact that Oracle doesn't know about Harley is beyond me (maybe she doesn't know who Huntress' therapist is).

in the show, the cops talked as if Batman never existed, or wasn't known by the public...which is odd...(how many times do you have to save a city from destruction to get a little respect? :D )

"why, is your spider-sense tingling?" - another good line

*smirks* Spider sense... as if this show was as good as THAT movie...

I wish it WAS the Scarecrow. Not that metahuman thingie. It would have been more fun.

I do agree, the Joker isn't about building empires. He's about jokes and chaos along with larcency on occasion.

I think the Joker's look WAS off, but then I didn't see him clearly.
Barbara's Batgirl outfit SUCKED.

i just hope they don't fall into the trap of 'The Metahuman Bad-Guy of the Week'

didn't Smallville fall into this, with the infected-with-Kryptonite-bad-guy-of-the-week? (i don't watch it, i've just heard a friend comment on it)

I'm guessing that this is Harleen Quinzel before she ever became Harlequin. In the animated series, there was a huge personality shift in her after she turned villain, and she's definitely acting more like the pre-Harley version. Also, if she were caught and sent to prison, then she almost surely would have had her license revoked and wouldn't be doing therapy any more.

In recent Batman comics, they wanted to go with the "Batman as an urban legend" idea, that has Batman as the kind of mysterious crimefighter that no one could prove existed, and criminals had all sorts of ideas about what he was or was not. While this kind of worked in his own comics, it was pretty silly in Justice League.

Personally, I liked the script, but something was definitely off, either the acting or the directing. The plot was fine, the characters decent (for a pilot), but some of the extra special effects elements seemed to detract from the show rather than adding to it. The Huntress cat's-eye thing and the growl seemed more cheesy to me than cool. And I can't stop thinking of DOOM 2 every time the door to their secret lair opens and closes (it's the exact same sound).
