Spontaneous casting question

First Post
If I interpret the players handbook correctly a cleric can swap any prepared spell for a cure/inflict spell of the same level. A cure spell is one with 'cure' in the title, cure light wounds for example.
Does this then mean that spontaneous casting only works for spells up to 4th lvl i.e cure critical. What about 5th to 9th level spells? Just curious to know.

Correct.

You can use a higher level spell slot to cast metamagic'ed versions of the cure spells. Eg a doubly-empowered CCW would require an 8th level spell slot.

Or of course you can also use a higher level slot to cast a non-metamagic cure spell if you don't have any useful metamagics to use.

Since it's being spontaneously cast, I'd assume it would use the same logic as a sorcerer casting a metamagiced spell, so a spontaneously cast quicken cure light wounds would take a full round action to cast.

That's how I'd do it, but as it's been over a year since I DMed, my knowledge of the rules is getting a little fuzzy.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

1) You can't swap out your domain spells in this fashion.
2) You can cure OR inflict, depending upon alignment/diety (or a one-time choice in the case of neutrals).

You can use the higher level slots to cast metamagicked, lower-level cures, but doing so takes a full round action.

Does the original poster mean higher level "cure" spells, such as "Heal"?

If so, that's a great question, not addressed in the PHB...

1) My PHB is out of reach, but the SRD's description of the Cleric class states that "a cure spell is any spell with 'cure' in its name."
(Edit: the PHB has exactly the same wording, on page 32)

2) If that's still unclear to you, read the question on the Healing domain on page 3 of the FAQ.

Clerics cannot spontaneously cast spells other than 'Cure x Wounds' spells.

I guess you actually require the metamagic feat to bump up the spells. Correct?
