Spring attack and Large Creatures

Question came up today. Spring Attack says it negates the AOO for movement from the defender you use Spring Attack on. But the Dm I played with thought that only meant the first 5 foot of threaten space, not the next 5 foot.

So does a large creature still get his AOO when I use Spring Attack on him?

No. That's an AoO for movement, which is exactly what the feat prevents.

It sounds like the DM may be getting Spring Attack confused with the Withdraw action.

No, the answer is in the question, you have to move at least 10' to use the feat as it is written and you're totally "protected" from AoO from the defender.

SPRING ATTACK [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Dex 13, Dodge, Mobility, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit: When using the attack action with a melee weapon, you can move both before and after the attack, provided that your total distance moved is not greater than your speed. Moving in this way does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the defender you attack, though it might provoke attacks of opportunity from other creatures, if appropriate. You can’t use this feat if you are wearing heavy armor.
