Just getting around to (re)watching this series. Boy, is that pilot episode cringe! It picked up right away with episode 2 at least, but I am immediately reminded of why I didn’t like this show as much – the space station setting is too claustrophobic for my tastes.

EDIT: S1E4 Babel and S1E5 Captive Pursuit were quite enjoyable!

It's an old show. If you're not a trekking with a high tolerance of pain yeah. It's generally compared with TNG S1 or Voyager S1. Both of which are so much worse than DS9 S1.

Roughly contemporary I woukld put S1 Stargate SG1, B5 and Farscape S1 over Trek 90s S1.

If I recall correctly, later in the series there's a whole episode revolving around Morn...and he still doesn't say a line on-screen.

I had a knee jerk reaction. When folks use "cringe" these days its usually becasue of something highly offensive and not the general sense.

I would interpret "cringe" as meaning embarrassing, not offensive. As in the DS9 pilot, embarrassingly bad acting, and sets that look bad on modern TVs.

The promenade set is a particular issue - it looks far too small. Of course, in this episode it is largely deserted, when it is populated by extras it looks better.

If we are being pedantic, the term "cash" can refer to any hard currency, which would include GPL.
