I know it's a few months until the December release, but what does everyone think of the previews and other tidbits that have been floating around?

Picard's clone is the Reman nemesis? Is everyone clone happy in the sci-fi universe this year? And how about Data's death...is this going to happen? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm happy for the new blood in both the writing and directing aspects of this new film. With luck, it will be the crowning effort for the TNG movies and maybe not the last as many are predicting.

All thoughts are welcome here.

I wouldn't mind if they started leap-frogging movie/tv locations between TNGs Enterprise and DS9. Perhaps it is even time to script a whole new movie, using the Star Trek universe but not with any of the television characters. Nothing against all of our favorites, but it would be nice to get some completely fresh Trek, eh? :)

Back on Topic: I've heard nothing about the Nemesis aside from the name and that it was coming this year. Now I've got two excellent movies to see this December. :)

more spoilers- ya knuckleheads

It doesn't stop there- with Data building his own youngin to experience fatherhood or some junk like that. (Gee, there has not been an episode on that before...)

From the script review I read, this movie is going to suck- I wish they would just can Star Trek for ten years and let the current clowns go away.

I'm hoping that having a non-trek standard director will make this a watchable movie. I have hated each and every TNG movie. They've been nothing more than really long episodes - and lame episodes at that. Bah.

I don't know..

I love First Contact just for the scene between Worf/Picard- "If you were any other man, I would kill you." or something along those lines. It just sends shivers down my back.

So what was it that made the first 6 movies and not feature-length episodes?

I think it was the feel that the universe is getting on. The Federation is growing, the Klingons are not as aggressive, and all the heroes of the Federation are getting older and older....

By contrast, in the TNG movies you have some folks getting different job assignments (i.e. Worf) but they're always there when you need them. Picard isn't struggling with getting older like Kirk did, and he definitely doesn't have a son whom he's only known for a few months before he dies.

And somehow, losing the Enterprise D doesn't hurt as much as losing the Enterprise. Maybe it's because that Enterprise has seen so much before Kirk got ahold of it, and had kept them all safe and sound through dangers unnumbered for so long. There just isn't that sense of history to the D.

Then again, maybe it's the thought that the Enterprise was going to be decommissioned and that Kirk blew her up to prevent her from going to the Klingons. The D was blown up by the Klingons, Riker didn't have to make the decision to destroy it.

But yes, the latest movies have sucked bigtime. There's always hope that the next movie is better, however, and I hope this time that Nemesis is.

Excuse me... I've got something in my eye....

From what I have seen so far of Nemesis it looks like it will suck. I liked all the other TNG movies, though. (First Contact is my second favorite Trek movie, after The Wrath of Khan)

A lot of Trek fans (including myself) hope it will be good. After all, it appears there is a pattern in which the even-numbered Trek films tend to fare well in the box office than odd-numbered films. As some of you have pointed out, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the most poignant Trek movie of all time. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was a hit not to Trek fans but the mainstream audience as it has a theme regarding self-awareness to the earth's environment. Of course it helps to coincide with 1984's Earth Day Festival, so far the most popular Earth Day Festival to date.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country was as adventurous as well as marking a turning point in Trek history when Klingon and Federation begins the first step toward making peace. And let us not forget Star Trek VIII: The First Contact.

What they also have in common is the use of classic literature. TWOK and TUD has the villains quoting a text from Shakespeare, TVH has Klingon Bird-of-Prey being renamed USS Bounty (from Mutiny on the Bounty), and TFC whose theme revolves around an obsession of one man a la Captain Ahab. Such elements tend to make the film familiar and intelligent.

Who knows? The tenth Trek film may have some quote or element from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. :p

I'm hopeful...I must say after seeing the teaser I thought one of my fave characters (Lore) was making a return. Sadly it isnt coming to pass.

That said I wouldnt list any of the NG films as fave treks. 2, 4 & 6 are my faves. Esp 2 & 6.
