Besides, this movie is not about Wesley saving the new starship. His scene is merely to attend a wedding, a cameo appearance just for Trek fans who would be delighted in seeing him again.

Don't recall her being pregnant at the time. I did recall her having a one-time appearance in The Hunt for Red October, playing Jack Ryan's wife and she doesn't look pregnant. It was shot during TNG's second season run.Umbran said:
IIRC, they did not "try to replace her", the actress got pregnant. They never intended Dr. Pulaski to permanently replace Crusher. Pregnancy also inspired the doctor's loose blue coat, and her tendency to stand behind tall chairs...
