Star Trek: Nemesis

Considering that this movie will be using Romulans, one would expect they would include Major Sela (Tasha Yar's half-Romulan daughter) but so no far no mention of Denise Crosby being attached to the film.

On another note, post-production crew have edited out the scene including Wesley Crusher attending the wedding, in an effort to shorten the film time.

This is the best news so far, well next to the Romulans (best Trek enemy) finally getting on the big screen. Hope this movie is good but have been unimpressed so far with the Next Gen offerings.

NEW YORK TIMES tees off on STAR TREK: NEMESIS
Well, not really interesting - look at the "big movie plots". They aren´t very creative or new.

"Man & woman believe to hate each other, but they come together at the end"

"Evil Villain plots to conquer/destroy earth, Hero must stop him. (and usually succeeds)"

"Great Catastrophe threatens Earth/Country/State/City." Often combined with Storyline 1, sometimes identically with Storyline 2.

But who cares if it is a story we all do already know? The question is, how is the story telled, and what quality are the Special Effects? :)

Hey, Wesley irritated me too, but I think it's too bad - Wil Wheaton is actually an interesting guy, with a good sense of humor and a solid grasp on his place in Satr Trek history. How do I know? Check out his website, which was a pleasant surprise:

Personally, I think Star Trek went off-track when it began to make allies of enemies like the Klingons, and created new ones to replace them.

The Klingons, especially, would have made good continuing bad guys for the Star Trek series. They are almost polar opposites of the Federation: violence is the answer to most problems for them, their laws are most often draconian, and the lives of non-Klingons aren't important to them. But then, the producers and writers began to make the Klingons ineffectual and bumbling. Didn't it seem like Worf, for example, was always getting his butt kicked? Didn't it seem like Klingons were dumbed down in later series and movies - the original series showed smart, ruthless Klingon leaders who backed up their threats. Later Klingons were often a lot of bluster, with nothing to back it up. Plus, they managed to blow up one of their own moons, dooming themselves!

The Romulans were another good foil for the Federation - they were literally the evil twins of the Vulcans. The sheer narrative potential of the Romulans is enormous: they give a glimpse into what Vulcans once were, and may still be, beneath the veneer. But then the writers and producers turned them into something akin to the Snidely Whiplashes of the galaxy - they show up, do some bad stuff, and twirl their figurative mustaches. The whole Vulcan/Romulan conflict is largely ignored.

he plays d&d, too, no?

THis is going to come off as a really stupid question, I am aware of that. But I have to ask anyway...

What is the relation between vulcan, romulas, and remus (?) -- (or is the third one not a planet but the moon for romulas)?

(again, yes, it probably is a very stupid question -- apologies in advance to those who are sickened by my ignorance ;) )

(err and keep the answer brief so as not to hijack this thread too much :)

It is not stupid.

This is all iirc:

Romulans are a Vulcans who long ago broke off from the logic-living and went back to their emotional ways.

They went to Romulas and enslaved the native species- which are the occupants of Remus.

Sorry, even though I flinched at the sight of any episode story that spotlight Wesley having to save the ship once again, his other episodes were good enough for me.

Besides, this movie is not about Wesley saving the new starship. His scene is merely to attend a wedding, a cameo appearance just for Trek fans who would be delighted in seeing him again.

So I am not a fan unless I like Wesley Crusher? He was by far the most irritating thing about Next Gen, with his mother being a close second. Don't want to dis the actor but I just don't like his character.

Anyway I am looking forward to this movie and hope its good like Wrath of Khan and the Undiscovered Country.
