star trek rpg/battle game

i have a new buddy in my small town who is interested in trying r.p.g.'s out and i want his first experience to be a good one. he is way into star trek, but i have never played anything but d+d in various incarnations and 1 superhero game(did some battletech, but that was just stomping each other, never really roleplayed)

can anyone reccomend a star trek rpg, or a star trekish rpg?

The little I have seen of it looks very good- a lot of the game built upon the LUG version.

I do not own it, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but I've heard that the most recent Star Trek game uses a system that is very similar to d20... that might be a good one to start with, easier to nudge him into other things

Coda (used in Decipher's Star Trek as well as the upcoming Lord of the Rings game) shares many things in common with d20.

I personally enjoy the system and would recommend you take a look at the Star Trek RPG by Decipher.
