Star Wars d20 is dead

I e-mailed WotC about this a few weeks back, and they reiterated that the SW RPG line wasn't cancelled. It did sound like they were focusing on minis for now, though. I get the impression that they just aren't sure what to do about the SW RPG line, or whether it will bring in enough of a profit.

So, will current players stop playing?

Hell no! ;)

Heck, many fans of the d6 system still play using those rules.

If I were currently running a Star Wars game, I wouldn't limit myself to the d20 rules anyway. I would look at the d6 books as well, and a variety of books out there on Star Wars. All of which come together to help enrich the game.

And if you're looking for Revenge of the Sith gaming goodness, I highly recommend checking out SWRPGNetwork.com. This is run by Rodney Thompson (aka Moridin), who has written some of the SW rulebooks and a few other RPG books besides. He's a great writer, and you can see his works on the site.

I probably ought to pick up at least the core book, then. It looked to have some interesting mechanics, but my group is dead set against playing in any book/movie/TV setting (myself included), so it was never really a priority.

Wow, and you didn't even chastise the people who buy stuff on Amazon. I'm shocked!

But seriously, was there an "official" press release somewhere?

Nothing offical to the public, but there was a notice sent out that said nothing was scheduled for release this year.

That is not the same thing as an "official" notice that the line is cancelled. Stating so is like the boy that cried wolf.

I did not cry wolf. I stated that nothing was slated for the RPG line and that OP support had been cancelled. I do not consider the RPGA as OP support in the sense that they do not produce items such as the retailer kits.

The SW Minis does have a retailer kit now, while the DE d20 one is gone.

Potentially, they could be going for a re-launch for next year.

Likely, the line is dead, but we won't know for certain until an official announcement is made somewhere.

On the FLGS thread you said that the line was officially dead. However, there is no announcement or even shady "insider" information to back up your claim, so in essence you did cry wolf. Your "official" information is the facts that we've all known for a while now, but still doesn't make the line officially dead until WotC says so.

No releases in the same year that the last (and biggest) Star Wars movie hits the theatres (and none on the horizon) DOES mean it is dead, whether it is officially announced or not. If not in the strictly technical sense, then certainly in the practical sense. That's all BelenUmeria said and he is essentially correct.

Not wanting it to be so doesn't change the facts.

That's not what he stated in the original thread. That's what I (and a few others that read the original post) are getting at. He made it sound like it was truly official. That is not the case. My not wanting the line to be, in essence, dead was (and still is) not the issue here.
