I'm so getting this game this week, though I have one question if anyone knows off hand. Whats the age rating on this thing, suitable for my nephew of 10?
I'll let you know when I play it tomorrow. :)

EDIT: Read the link that Welverin posted. Gamespot is to be trusted. It's a 3 page review so you should get a decent idea of what the game is about from that.

http://ebgames.com/ebx/product/220997.asp <- has a link to the back of the box. Is rated 'T' and has some violence in it. If you don't mind the movies, the game shouldn't be much of a threat I would think...

Here's Gamespot's review, Greg gave it a 9.1, shame on anyone who doubted it would be good.

Well. let's be fair, despite Bioware's involvement, the overwhelming preponderance of the evidence shows that Star Wars licenses can be very good or VERY BAD.

Oh, and Game Informer rated it at 92.5%, for what that's worth.

Played it Last Night

The Dist Manager for our local Gamestop hand delivered the game while I happened to be by at lunch so I got a chance to play for about 45 mins last night.

I covered the basics and was able to figure it out without opening the instruction manual which is always good.

I had some trouble with the way your character targets items like doors and containers but that may be because I didn't read the instructions and was mainly wanting an impression. (And was under intense pressure by my 8 year old nephew to at least LOOK at it before bed.)

I haven't got used to the combat yet, which is a "pick your attack and then watch" kind of style though it will log all the dice rolls and behind the scenes stuff.

And even though I'd reserved and prepaid for this game months ago and had been following its development I somehow missed that it was going to be a d20/Star Wars RPG. It was a nice surprise.

Everything else is OK. I haven't played it enough to be blown away by anything yet. The graphics are fine but nothing revolutionary...so far.

Taken from the Review thread...

I played it for just about an hour before work today. Some of this will echo the linked review and the above poster but I'll share a bit of the experience -
  • The game is pure fun.
  • It is fast-paced, voice-acted well and generally easy to play.
  • The simplified Star Wars d20 rules system that the game uses really work for me as I know that system fairly well and was able to jump right in and make a character easily, with a future Jedi class of which there are 3 choices (Guardian, Counselor, Sentinel) in mind.
  • The choices you can have your character make pop up a lot and offer a good range of responses. Not all are completely straightforward and I can see playing the game again just to see what the other options do for gameplay.
  • The combat is pretty cool. Which I'm not totally used to it just yet it's easy to control and offers a good deal of choices for what you want your character to be good at (I'm going the dual-melee route for the double-bladed lightsaber).
  • The graphics aren't blow-you-away awesome but they more than get the job done. I can't wait to get into lightsaber combat. :)
Final thoughts - If you dig Star Wars, you'll love this game. Even if you don't like Star Wars I think there is enough in here to keep you interested. I'll post an update when I get farther...

Woo hoo! Grabbed a copy today. Gotta hook up my xbox and play. Im soo glad a Star Wars game finally got a good review. The xbox needs a good rpg.

I picked up my copy today and played for way too many hours tonight. I agree with the others above who've played... It's a lot of fun, good voice acting, etc...

The only thing I'd add is that it plays a LOT like Neverwinter Nights -- with WAY better combat animation. The interface is totally different, but it really has the NWN feel.

I'm also really liking the rules for upgrading your weapons and customizing droids! What a blast!

If you want a good console d20 game this is definitely it.

If you've got an XBox and like d20, definitely get this game. If you don't have an XBox, but like Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars, go buy an XBox and get this game! (or I guess you could wait until October and buy it for your PC....)

Anyway, I've got to go kick some more Sith butt with my dual vibro-blade wielding Scout!

Wish I could afford an X-Box... Oh well at some point in the future I will have one and one of the games I will get will be this one. I had totally forgotten about the game until I started seeing commercials for it.

this is easily the best game I've played this year. I got it friday and was playing with a friend at his place(big screen) next thing i knew it was 3 in the morning, day two saturday, I get back a movie with said friend aorund 3 ish in the day, next thing I know its 2:30 in the morning, day 3 sunday, around 2 ish I get to my firends hey this time I rememberd to set an alarm cause I work today, 11pm came up before I knew it.

Only complaint is the voice acting, humans they do a good job for the alians suck. They sound ok its just always gos something like this.

the subtitles(greetings human)

Apparently humans rule the star wars universe because there the only race that could communicate simple concepts in less than 5 minutes.
