Star Wars on DVD

Eh, I'll buy it. Having the Special Edition on DVD is better than having nothing on DVD. Besides, I'm not one of those types that gets all orgasmic over new types of packaging. I wouldn't care if they release all 6 in a single case. I also got the first two prequels on DVD, and I wouldn't replace those two.

Still, I WOULD buy another set if they had the original versions. Ah well.

argh, I keep thinking ... "Star Wars! Awesome ... DVD! Awesome!" ...

and like everyone else I really, really dislike that one scene in the special edition. Other than that one scene I thought the special edition was great.

You hit the nail on the head right there, Wolf72. With the exception of that Greedo nonsense, the Special Edition is really the way to go.

And that rumor I mentioned earlier; although I personally don't believe it, that'd be pretty cool too.

I am fanboy, hear me spend. * cue cash register cha-ching *

I will buy whatever Lucas feeds me. Special Editions - I'm there. Original Editions - I'm there. All six in one uber-set - I'm there. Well, unless there is nothing new on any of the DVDs besides of course the change of edition (original vs. special), that is.

Honestly, I still think (and I have been saying this for a while now) that no matter what Lucas says, we will get our original trilogy on DVD. It may not be right away but we will get it.

Oh, you can get it now, just not through your typical North American distributors, if you know what I mean. My brother bought them on ebay; I believe China was the original source. Original trilogy on DVD, high quality and everything.

I should add as well, I don't understand at all the idea that "I won't buy it 'coz I'm gonna teach Lucas a lesson" or some other moral high ground.

I buy stuff I want and I don't buy stuff I don't want. That's all she wrote, folks.

Exactly.

As long as I still own the original trilogy on LD, there's no need to by the Special Edition on DVD.

Really the only scene that I have a problem with is the Greedo thing. Otherwise the rest of it is tolerable.

If George Lucas were smart, he'd release each movie as a 4-disc set. The first disc being the original version, the second being the Special Edition, and the other two being extras.

Of course, that's dependent on his being smart. Something which I'd dispute solely on the basis of his addition of Jar Jar Binks to the Star Wars mythos.
Personally, that would be a TERRIBLE business and marketing move. Unlike some of us (myself included), there are Purists here that want nothing to do with the Special Edition. It would be a waste of their pocket change and a few extra gum wrapper to buy a product in which one disc will never be used. I mean it's like I'm paying Oriental Adventures but won't use the Rokugan material that came along with it (okay, so I'm a fanboy of Kara-Tur -- the way the original OA was released).

It is better to offer two different packages and let the consumers decide: one of them or both.
