Stargate d20

Actually I thought tackling it from more D&D style angle would be fun. Having a typical pseudo medieval world under the yoke of the Go'uld, with PC's striving to drive them off their world.

That itself wouldn't be stargate then. To actually play a team that goes through the stargate to encounter the things like on the tv show, now that would be cool. With d20 Modern, it might be possible, but I think that if someone did Farscape, then Stargate is right around the corner, theoretically speaking...

So the next question is, who bought WEG's license to StarGate?
Likely no-one. As I understand it, it's SOP to put a clause saying something like "in the events of bankruptcy or the company being sold, the licensor has the right to withdraw the license."

I wouldn't call that kind of clause standard operating procedure. In fact, I didn't start seeing those clauses very often until the dot.com bust was into full swing.

I did write the company that bought most of the WEG assets (French company, also owns MetaBarons, a great comic book). No response yet.

wow. His GURPS & CT version is pretty sweet, only thing I found off is that the Stargate movie is supposed to take place in '96 according to the television show, not in '94 (it's year of release). Otherwise it seems like a dead on reference. Even most of the spellings are correct (and _no one_ ever gets those right.)

According to West End Games, here is what they say about the license:

"John was hired before West End Games completed the StarGate deal, which was in the works before the Chapter 11 bankruptcy. When Humanoids bought West End Games, it decided to go with the DC Comics license. The StarGate deal was dropped.

Thus, while MGM did try to license the property, they were never able to - at least not to West End Games. I am surprised that no other company has attempted to pursue it; it must be quite expensive now."

I also note that the Gurps game referenced above is "fanfiction" and done without permission of the copyright owner. Pretty gutsy thing to do, actually.
