Stargate Emoverse to be cancelled

What I am saying is that the Nielsen system is antiquated in today's world for determining how popular a show is. Yes, they have some new metrics like DVR+7 (or whatever they call their DVR ratings), but these are all advertiser based ratings.

Nielsen does measure commercial viewing in DVR viewings with a rating commonly termed C+3. The overwhelming trend based on these numbers is that people don't view commercials in stuff watched after the fact. If you're not watching it live, you're probably not watching commercials, and thus advertisers simply don't care about DVR meeting. Since advertisers basically hold all the cards (ie, money), everyone plays by their rules, despite whether that makes sense or not.

All of my friends that liked new BSG... liked SGU.
I am a huge BSG fan and have introduced it to several other people, all of whom are genre fans and none of whom have watched SGU. Personally I didn't give it more than a fleeting look; seems to me like I'm the show's target audience (i.e. I watched the original Stargate movie but not the other shows and watched BSG and lots of other similar shows) but it didn't reach me. Not surprised it's canceled.

I know when I watch anything I DVR I hit the skip ahead at every commercial, so this would be a very smart stance for advertisers to take.

Yup. The problem seems to me that neither advertisement or pay-tv* seem to get enough money to create lots of Sci-Fi shows. Or that the pay-tv channels just believe that without even trying...

*) or maybe "DVD-Only" or Streaming services or whatever... Everything where it's not payed via commercials, but by the customer himself.

Yeah, no one I know falls into that group.

I wanted to like SG:U. I watched it through the mid-season hiatus of season 2, more out of a sense of habit than anything else. I guess I just kept waiting for it to get 'good'.

I think the biggest thing that drove me nuts is that some of the really interesting secondary characters kept getting pushed aside in favor of really boring (to me) characters like the senator's daughter.

Not to mention the marines that kept dying on missions... HOW many people were saved, originally? Cause I'm pretty sure you've used up more than that, without getting rid of more than one or two 'recognized' characters...

I'm not surprised to hear it's cancelled. I just wish the show had found a better middle ground between "StarGate" and Space Soap Opera. (IMO, obviously).
