Stargate season 8 on DVD?

Okay, I realize that the eighth season of Stargate just wrapped up a month or two ago. But does anyone know if they've announced a release date for the DVD set? I've only just recently gotten into the show (on DVD), and I've gotten addicted. But I won't jump ahead. If I haven't been able to get my hands on season 8, I'm not going to watch season 9 when it comes on in a few months. As unlikely as it is--in fact, I'd say almost impossible--I'm still holding out some vague hope that season 8 will be out in time.

Anyone know anything?

Shows used to at least wait until the season was in syndication before putting them out on DVD, so as not to leech viewers away from advertiser-laden TV. So it may be another year or so...

If it does drop in November you might have enought time to watch it before Sci Fi starts the rerurns of the first half of Season 9 during the split.

Well, let me ask a related question.

How does season 8 stack up, quality-wise? I have to admit, I have some serious doubts, based on:

A) The few spoilers I've accidentally learned (I'm really not a fan of the replicators as villains, or plotlines involving the various ascended beings), and

B) The notion of O'Neill moving farther and farther from the spotlight. Jack O'Neill is one of my favorite TV characters in many years, and I don't know how much I'll really enjoy the show without him.

I am, however, happy and willing to be told I'm wrong in my doubts.

I was disappointed in the first half of the season. The episodes were all based upon, and around, the SGC. It was boring. But then they moved out and had more locale based eps. They more than made up for the boring first half.

The episode with Dan Castanella was one of my favorites, even though it was, technically, a flashback episode. :)

Very few TV shows have ever made flashback episodes that were entertaining. The only other example I can think of is one episode of Hercules, which took place in the offices of Renaissance Pictures, with the cast & frequent guest stars (e.g. Bruce Campbell, Hudson Leick, Ted Raimi, the guy playing Salmoneus) playing the various people in charge of making the show.
