Stargate SG-1: Is there an in-character explanation for language?

Almost everyone on every planet speaks English on Stargate SG-1. Obviously from a successful show standpoint this is necessary, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I was just curious if they ever explain the lack of a spoken language barrier "in-character" or if they just ignore it.

The producers have said that they talked about introducing some kinda ancient plot device into play with this, but ultimately they just decided "Screw that! Everyone just speaks english."

Which is funny considering what a big deal language was in the movie. The whole point of having Daniel Jackson along was that he was this uber-genius linguist.

I always assumed that Daniel Jackson was translating, but they just hand-waved all that for the sake of keeping the plot moving...

At one time, this was in the FAQ on the official website. I think the official answer is that they aren't speaking English, but you aren't seeing them do all the translating, either.

Like on TV, people rarely actually dance to the music that is actually being heard by the viewer/listener.
