Stargate SG-1: Season 9 7.29.05

I really like where their going with this. Their not saying these auri are bad. We just think their bad because they believe in something and want to impose our their believes on us. I like a show that MAKES US make the bad guy because of our own personal beliefs.

They were really treading on thin ice during some of the scenes, talking about gods, free will and trying to make it make sense in a world where there are clearly aliens and higher power.

Cladia Blacks character is new and fresh, but I keep looking at mitchell and thinking Criton, which, honestly, is fine with me.

I don't think they're coming to get us because we "dissed" their religion. I think it was pretty clear that they are doing it simply because they feel superior and that we "need to be shown the light" as it were. I don't think that anything beyond accepting their religion would have stopped them from coming.
You're taking my post too literally. ;)

I use the same plot in my campaign. The religion isn't bad ,everyone just thinks you should be apart of it or die.

Well, here's the thing about the direction the show is taking. I read in an interview that everyone is treating it as a new series. That means that the Auri probably won't be a minor player like the replicants. That also means that they'll probably be around for more than just this one season.

It also occurred to me that the SGC could solve two problems fairly easily. The wraith and the auri are both badass, but in completely opposite ways. The auri apparently have hoards of humans that they can throw at a galaxy to solve problems. The wraith need to feed on humans. The solution - figure out a way to lead the auri crusaders to the pegasus galaxy and their problems will be solved. No matter who loses, and I doubt it would be the auri, the SGC wins!

In the first episode General Landry told Mitchell that O'Neil was the head of Homeworld Security. It was very quick and easy to miss with everything else going on at the moment when Mitchell first talks to to Landry in his office and learns SG-1 has dissolved.

Huh? What happened to George? Ever since Jack as dulled a lot on screen (it was almost painful to watch him with Mitchel in the X302), I would rather see Hammon once in a while over Jack.

As for my opinion- I think this is going to be interesting. It should be interesting to see why the Ori said they were the ones to create human life, see what the priors (sp?) can do, and see how Baal and his remaining super soldiers react to the whole invasion.

Strangely, the first thing I thought of when the priors were explained was the cult of the dead in Warcraft 3, even though they are not nearly as powerful.

I'm really glad to hear that. I really enjoyed last season, but it seemed like they'd milked everything they could out of those story arcs. Then, with O'Neill leaving, the whole SG-1 team dynamic is going to change. If they'd tried to just keep doing more of the same I think this would have been the last season. Now maybe it has a chance to re-invent itself and stick around for a few more seasons.

I'm not sure I care for where they're taking things. While Stargate has always had religion as a part of things because the Goa'uld claimed to be gods, it was always something of a background element that came up from time to time rather than being the focus of the show. Now, it seems they're going in a slightly different direction and making the religious element more central. Especially since they've always avoided dealing with Earth religions and it seems as if this situation is going to change that -- especially with the new commander of SG-1 and the new general having compared them to their christian grannies. I'm not looking forward to that.
