Starting Age of Worms

I actually was going to, but one of the players mentioned something about St. Cuthbert when asking what deities were being used for the campaign (I have my own that I normally use, but am using the Greyhawk ones). Hence, I plumbed for St. Cuthbert, as it will be easier for him to become involved if the PC also shares his faith.

Sydbar - Baron Opal is correct. The group I'm taking through Age of Worms started with 10 PCs (we're down to 9 now and will be down to 8 in a couple of weeks). I used the Scaling the Adventure suggestions (along with a couple of extra encounters to keep their XP on track) and so far it's worked very well. The encounters have remained challenging and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

Hijack to vent about a post earlier in this thread....

I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate...the way that people always rest after every little encounter..." we each cast 1 spell, I need to rest and meditate even though we have only been out of the front door for 25 minutes" Luckily, my group tries to be a little more realsitic. It can be deadly, but it has a little less of the computer gamey feel...save after every encounter, then rest, the go to the next room..I hate that!!!

Rant and hijack over....

Oookay....

Moving on,

E-Knight,

Understood but don't see why you can use an additional paladin and/or cleric of Herionous JUST in case.

I dunno about other groups, but my PCs only rested after running themselves absolutely ragged. As in all down to single digits, casters tapped out, out of alchemist's fire, and "the Kobold's threatening to cut all our throats if we don't stop!" ragged.

Well, we have just finished playing. Without going into huge amounts of details, they so far have had only two combats (wolves and lurking strangler), and the poison gas trap. Only 5 of the 6 players showed up, so only 5 PCs. Only one person has any ranks in Heal, and none took healing powers. So I may just have to add that extra one in when things start getting hairy.

True20 doesn't use hit points, but rather a wound system; no one actually reached the dying stage, though the same PC came close twice. The Adept character remarked that he may take a Healing power next level.

If he doesn't, I'd have the other PCs BEAT HIM DOWN!!! :p Sorry but if you can't help out the party with little/no healing you're pretty screwed. Especially when you're talking about Age of Worms and stuff like undead.

Well it CAN be if you lack, say magic. Not to mention perhaps infections or other kinds of stuff that Thieves World employs for dealing with combat.
