I recommend that the bonus to AC be a Shield bonus, representing the fact that the gauntlets are strong enough to block incoming blows - they're basically as good as a buckler or light shield. You should also think about assigning them arcane failure and an armor check penalty.

If you read my description of the gloves, you'll notice that it has little separations so has not to hinder dexterity or quick somatic spell movements. Think something like this, in regard to the separations.

As for making it a shield bonus, maybe, but I designed it not to take up a shield slot. Of course, this is homebrew, so anyone who used to could change it.

Build a character using it, and we'll find out.

I've got a couple of ideas on this. 1) A monk, who could actually use them effectively or 2) I was thinking of a mad scientist with his blast goggles on, sceaming it's alive while wearing them. Not quite sure which to try.

Those things would make playing a guitar difficult, and that's one of the kinds of dexterity I normally associate with arcane spell failure.

And yes, I know there's an open can of worms here.

Caveat: I've assumed that we're talking 3.X. If you're designing for a clone and I missed the tip-off somewhere, sorry for the poor language skills. Haven't had my second cup of coffee yet. ;)

That warning in place: there's no such thing as a "shield slot". A character can wield as many magic shields as their hands allow. But they only get to count the biggest Shield bonus to their AC.

It seems to me that the AC bonus from these gauntlets is the kind of thing that wouldn't stack with a buckler. Going form that to typing the bonus Shield makes them slightly more attractive for two-weapon fighting, but I tend to think they were already going that way.
