I bow to the wit of my learned brother.
[By the way, Mistwell, I just lost my first trial. Second-chair on murder-one / attempt murder-one. Just a month after I'm sworn in, and my clients are already getting life sentences...]
I'm sorry to hear that. I think most first trials are losses. It's part of the process of putting the career in perspective.
Doing what you do takes bravery and guts. Me, nowadays I do my contracts, negotiate about clauses that will most likely have no meaning in the future, and generally just foster commerce as best can. Your job is much more difficult, and more important.
Just remember that your job is to be a check on the system, to make sure the rules are followed as closely as reasonably possible, and to provide the counterpoint to your opposing counsel in a way that the truth is the most likely to come out. It doesn't always come out, and the system isn't always fair or reasonable. But it has the best chance of working of any known system.
And I'm sure you did do that job, of being a check on the system, pointing out where the rules were not followed, and providing the best pressure to allow the most truth to come out. So you should sleep easy.
Okay, sorry for the speech, I'm going back to my contracts and trademarks, stock options and mergers. Safe things, where I rarely have to face losing
