Steven Speilberg's Taken wins the Emmy

OK, I tried to watch "Steven Speilberg Presents Taken" last time it was on and I just couldn't get into it.

It just won the Emmy (for "Best Movie or Mini-Series" or something like that), and it's going to be shown again.

Do you think it's any good? Should I try to watch it again (assuming I was just having a bad day last time), or is winning a Emmy a designation of something to stay away from in our beloved genres?

I'd say the X-files took most of the thrill out of it for me. Since it's mostly just a lot of X-files plots mixed together. IMHO.

It was OK. It's a heck of a lot easier to get into than X-Files, which was a bonus for me - just start watching at the start and go all the way through. It's one continuous story, too, unlike a regular series which has diversions - this has no diversions. It's like some massive 900-page multigenerational novel on the small screen.

If you like guns, spandex and big explosions, you'll probably be bored 60% of the time or more. It's that kind of thing.

EDIT: Said 'movie' where I meant 'thing', getting confused by story cohesion.

I thought it was quite good and would likely watch it again if the opportunity came up. Seeing some of the actors tonight reminded me of some of the really great stuff.

I definitely recommend it. I especially dug the multi-generational storyline covering 40 years or so. Very cool.

I thought it was complete crap + extremely boring at the same time. I watched like half of it and couldn't stand it any longer. I figured something good might happen, but it never did.

I watched Taken and was not impressed. As a lot of people have said the plots were from X-Files, nothing to make to sit-up and go 'oh my'. As far as special effects go, standard fare.

I do think it won because the last year of television has been poor, very poor, so a luke warm show like Taken looks better than it is.

I thought it was pretty good. It's definitely action-lite, but the multi-generation storyline worked well for me. Personally I found the first half of the series more entertaining than the last half simply because the last half did seem like a weak version of the X-Files. The episodes set in the 40's through 60's seemed better focused than the modern day episodes - YMMV.

Overall the episodes were worth watching although there were a few bad actors and some of the FX were a bit weak.
