Looks like Disney is back-pedaling on the Kimmel suspension. Of course, they're saying it's because they've had fruitful discussion with Kimmel in the intervening days, but I think it's more likely that the immediate and vigorous boycott pressure has got them spooked.

Some outlets are touting that they lost over $3B, virtually overnight. I can't speak to the accuracy of that statement and none who are making have shown a source.

Ditched Paramount Plus now that I've finished Strange New Worlds. Ditched Netflix after finishing Sakamoto Days. I only kept HiDive because they offered me a deal, lol. I wanted to cancel Disney, but I have a deal until January and my Mom likes it.

Well, Disney is a publicly-traded company, so we know that Disney's stocks fell by 1.9% since they made the decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel. And we also know that 1.9% of Disney stock is worth $3.87 billion. We don't know if the Disney boycott was the reason their stocks fell...but evidently Disney does believe it, because they reversed their decision after just one week.

If their change of direction is indeed because of the boycott, it would make this the first ever successful boycott against The Mouse.

A 1.9% stock drop is awfully ephemeral and unlikely to be enough by itself to prompt a reversal. Stock prices fluctuate up and down by more than that for no apparent reason at all sometimes.

I bet they were also seeing tangible financial losses due to things like Disney+ cancellations and Disney theme park attendance and could see the writing on the wall.

A 2% stock drop is also possibly just a daily fluctuation. I wouldn’t put too much “stock” in any particular reason why it would drop or rise by that amount.

Not to say that Disney doesn’t have its own internal metrics that they track - I’m just saying it’s not likely something the public would know.

Agreed on all counts. I'm not an expert on this stuff. It's evident that something made them change their mind, and change it in a hurry, but we may never be able to say for sure if it was the boycott. Personally, I think Disney would need to be hard-pressed to admit to it. They'd try to blame it on anything else they could think of, for fear of setting a precedent.
