Ok, so I sign in to my email and I see 7 messages telling me how I'm evil and how I'm going to hell for dming. They say I have brought others to the evil occult and that only by burning all of my d&d materials can I "escape this fate." But, get this, they say that I might summon an actual demon via the "rituals" i perform with my players. I hardly consider saying "i summon a Hezrou" a ritual. I dont know how they got my email but I had to change it, which is a major pain. If anyone else has had a similar experience, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I've not had a similar experience, but as a devout Xn and enthusiastic DM I would recommend that you ignore their rants. Spend your energy plotting your next TPK. Invest your imagination in the next parley between the PCs and the local constable. Having fun is your best revenge.

"Die orc die!"

I would agree with Rusty Halo. Don't pay them much attention. I am also a devout one of these sort of folk, and there are really not many of us who are like this. :) I even wrote to the now defunct magazine Shadis a letter to the editor some years ago - I had a friend who worked there and when he got the letter he roared with laughter and they even printed it in the magazine. The editor I was giving a hard time took it in good humor and sport.

But I wouldn't even spend time trying to deliberately "have fun" as an act of revenge. Even that is not worth your time. Spending any amount of our energy in "getting back" at such things leaves a bad taste in the mouth and a little element "nagging" in the back of our minds, rubbing the irritation and making it all the more annoying over time.

They are acting and responding against something they feel is dangerous or wrong or what not. They just don't know. :)

Probably the best thing you could do would be to configure your anti-spam filter in the future. ;) Much less hassle and you can keep your email address that all your friends and acquaintences know. You can also contact your ISP and ask them to deliberately add the emailers' addresses in question to their "blacklist" filter so that you don't have to be bothered by such things in the future.

<head doing the slow "not this again" shake> not this again

In all my years of gaming I have never seen anyone at a gaming table do anything but laugh and shake their heads athte stupid, morons that cruise the outer fringes of the gaming arena talking crap about us.

They have no idea what we do at a table, they have no idea the greatness that comes from gaming, and little to no clue that there are more Good core classes then evil ones.

My parents wanted me to quit because they heard the hype, if I had I would be into drugs, booze, and more likes in prison or dead by now. Instead I have a daughter, married for eleven years, own a home, and am looking at a career into health care.

Anyone that talks crap about how evil gaming is- has no clue.

You make people and causes immortal when you remember them, lets forget about this thread and the people that would drive the cause of "the evil gamers," cause we all know its bullcrap.

Peace everyone.

Every once in a while someone posts a thread about some religious group jumping on the “they summon devils/demons while playing Dungeon and Dragons! We must stop this evil!”

I have a question- I know there are people out there that actually believe this crap, but are there any rules in any of the books for summoning other planar creatures? I have been at this for twenty odd years and I can not recall ever once seeing anything about summoning up anything in any of the books. I know that the religious nuts talk about the original rules being written and in those rules there were suppose to be ways to summon up evil beings.

You know what- never mind, I was going to post this in its own thread, but instead I will post it here.

My God, these people are fixated on the evils of something they have no clue about.

Yes ... I think we might be traipsing around the edge of a subject that might be a little too uncomfortably close to the "no religion" policy of the place....

Agreement or disagreement is not the issue here my good Harmon. :)

Hey, that's a pretty creative imagination they have. They'd make good GMs themselves!

I'm a 38yr old Roman Catholic who has been playing for @28 years.

My godmother told me my hobby was Satanic. My mother (briefly) agreed, but soon realized it wasn't the case..

My HS art teacher of 4 years (the talented Roberto Munguia) who became "born-again," constantly debated it with me. "I see the Devil in your art, Tony" he would tell me. To which I would respond "I can see the Devil in art by Leonardo DaVinci, too" or the like.

Etc.

My advice- let it roll off your back, like water falls from a duck. Live well, eat well, sleep well.

If you must debate someone about it, remain calm. Shouting them down just reinforces their misperceptions.
