stupid warning labels and disclaimers...

I know this has been mentioned before... It has to have been by now anyway....

I saw an ad today for an energy drink in which a couple of kids drink it and then start tearing things in half with their bare hands.... phone books, mattresses, a car.....

anyway, at the bottom of the screen was a disclaimer indicating that this was merely a dramatization and that said "energy drink does not grant superhuman ripping ability".

Same thing goes for Red Bull. They had to put out a disclaimer stating that you won't actually grow wings and fly. Are people truly so stupid? I mean REALLY?

Gahh!!! It makes me want to go out and start culling....

I think it's less to do with stupidity as it is a measure against litigation. That is, they don't want to be liable in case somebody tries to extort the company on the basis of the advertisement.

It's really sad.

Some of that is for humor and adveritzing. I think you're speaking of Vitamin Water for the other one.

I have a feeling that that particular disclaimer is meant to be sarcastic. As in, NO DUH. :)

Just like Weird Al says...

I sued Taco Bell
'Cause I ate half a million Chalupas
And I got fat!

A lot of them are done as jokes.

Like for the Burger King Xbox video game, the disclaimer said

"Profesional Stunt King - Do not try this at home"

Or for the Ford Edge (?) commercial

"Cars do not really drive on edges of buildings"

Though in the Red Bull case, I can see some people suing over it. I remember years ago, Pepsi had a cap points contest, you could earn prizes for sending in caps. And one commerical was "Harrier Jet - 1 Billion Points" or something like that. So some guy wrote them a check for the amount (you could also buy points for like 1 cent) and then sued them when he couldn't get a jet. (Unless the story is an urban myth).

Lawyers are slowly destroying our nation. Politicians (most are lawyers) are doing it even faster.
