Subtitles for People That Hate Them

What happens with things like Star Wars, where Greedo, Jabba, etc. are subtitled (but not R2D2--why?) and the humans are not?

R2 isn't subtitled, because:
1) He's got quite the potty mouth (lack of actual mouth notwithstanding).
2) We can all tell what he's saying anyway.
 


This seems like as good a place to mention this as anywhere:

Does anyone else get really bothered when you’re watching a dub with subtitles still on and the two don’t match? Just me?
Oh, definitely. There's an even bigger disconnect when my rudimentary French tells me that what's being said and subtitles aren't even in the same neighbourhood.

This is me with any movie in Spanish with English subtitles. I find it very distracting because I can’t help but critique the translation.

That said, as someone with some auditory processing issues and some hearing damage, captions are a godsend when I can’t have the TV at a loud volume and wearing dedicated Bluetooth headphones is not convenient (which is most of the time).
