D&D 3E/3.5 Suddenly, Magipunk (3.5)

An hour?

The first half hour is free. Every hour after that needs a check.

So I could see an argument for a half hour. I could see one for an hour and a half.

I don't see any way to come up with a one hour per week number. I also don't see a reason for it either, but reason left the building a long time ago, so that aspect is pretty much a joke by now.

Now my "you win" tactic was used because you were arguing to death a question that was 100% off topic, and I was desperately trying to get the thread back on topic. (It was my thread, in that I started it, so I figured I had the right.)

Are you trying to get this thread back on the topic of magically powered steam technology? If so, you're going about it in the oddest fashion. And we've pretty much beaten it to death, but if that's where you wan to go...

Please, either support or counter the idea that steam engine can be made of "a bit of metal", and powered completely by magical steam. (I'm in the "no" camp myself, but you're free to argue otherwise.)

Let us set aside for a moment the amount of work done and look at the quality of the labour instead. My immediate thought is that a person with a lyre of building who has a craft skill can combine that with a perform check to improve the results of their work. To do this, a lyricist may add a number of ranks of a craft skill, say Craft (masonry) up to his or her number of ranks of Perform (lyre). Essentially the crafter is using music to translate skill in masonry into reality. You cannot exceed your actualy skill in masonry, and you must have an equal amount of musical skill to actualise your craft through the instrument. Thoughts?

I've had a question regarding some of the "magical labor" spells.

Fabricate, for example, uses a craft check by the caster. Obviously that check won't include any Aid Another modifiers they'd normally have access to from trained assistants.

Would it include any other circumstance modifiers? As in, if you try to claim bonuses because you have a well prepared shop or master worked artisan's tools, do you also pay the penalty when you have makeshift tools or no tools?

The Magnificent Mansion spell includes raw materials enough for a nine course meal for a dozen people per caster level. It also includes Unseen Servants for the house. Does someone have to cook that nine course meal? Are Unseen Servant spells entitled to a Craft or Profession - Cook roll on that?

Are Unseen Servant spells normally allowed skill checks for the quality of work they do? If so, what are the modifiers, if any?

Will the Lyre of Building allow skilled labor? If so, how should it be determined? The description of the item talks about buildings and mines, which can't exactly be done sloppily if you want them to stand, after all. Does it depend on Knowledge - Architecture and Engineering on the part of the musician, or do they need all the individual Craft/Profession skills used? (i.e. Carpenter, Stone Mason, Plumber, Cabinet Maker, Roofer, Locksmith, Glazer (for the windows), Tile and Grout, etc. )

The Sage said that the Lyre can only produce unskilled labor, but then The Sage has said a lot of things that flatly contradicted the actual rules.
