Sugestions on character

Hey I decided to give the En PW a try.

Seeing as the only time I realy can play is on Mondays during the day I realy am going to have to solo mostley. The only char's I noticed until it was almost time for me to leave were all high level.

Any tips on soloing or soloing character builds? I am obviously a Rogue fan and have created an elven Rogue right now 3rd level. I was thinking of going either Assassin or Shadow Dancer. I don't have the character with me right now I am at work but the stats are around this STR=12 Dex=15 CON=10 Int=16 Wis=10 Cha=14. I may be off but this is close to them. Obviously if I am thinking of Assassin I am evil. I did the build based on skills, and Use magic item. First feat was stealthy 2nd was weapon finesse. I was planing on surviving by stealth and sneak attacks mostley at range with longbow and when pressed melee with longsword. Magic items as back up for tougher fights.

I could restart if there are good character build sugestions for a soloer. But would prefer if there were good sugestions for above charcter.

I did find the soloing doable to a point. Staying hidden and sniping is doing well for me but the lag realy hurts this strategy. I think almost every 1 of my 4 or 5 deaths yesterday was do to lag in some way or other. Running away and sniping the creature when he suddenly apears right in front of you is..... nasty.

Also is there anyway to tell what area you should be in based on level or better yet avoid.

EDIT argh must remember to preview post first.

You really ought to add a few levels of Fighter if you are gonna solo, otherwise you'll be spending all your gold on potions. And stay west and south for a while. Until you can sneak through the goblin camp unseen at least.

See I was thinking of Multi to Ranger so that I can continue to boost my stealth skills and get animal empathy to temporarily charm animals. I would also get an hp boost and 2 weapon fighting in light armour which is no prob as my main class is rogue. Problem is I am now 3rd level. If I do this I will get an xp penalty. So I am torn. I earned enough cash to get +1 leather, I have found a couple of scrolls and a wand of negative energy(I think). Stick as Rogue? Multi to Ranger and except xp penalty? Start over?

If I was playing a single player module the choice would be easy I'd stick as Rogue. Not having a lot of experience with online play I was hoping for some feedback. Due to time constraints I am going to mostly be stuck soloing. Some feedback on soloing character types on this server would be helpfull.

Hmm.

It's going to be a pain to work out flanking situations, and otherwise you're pretty unremarkable damage-dealing. If you were to go the rogue route, I'd work on getting Shadowdancer levels, for Hide in Plain Sight...but I have yet to play a pure rogue (I have a Monk/Fighter/Rogue, though), so my advice is speculation only.

There aren't many animals in the game, I doubt Animal Empathy is worth it. You'd be better off with something that summons (at least later on, there's a helm and a staff that allow you to Gate 1x/day : ) ).

I realy want to stick with the character as I love Rogues but if damage dealing is that important this build is not a good choice.

I am thinking I may pick up a level of ranger at 4th and take the xp pentalty until 5th level to give myself a combat/hp boost.

As to the animal empathy aren't most monsters efected by this? For example Fire beetles. I seem to recal playing the Harper's tale modules single palyer as a druid shifter and using this on monster types.

The XP penalty isn't that much of a pain, especially at low level or high level. It's the middle levels where it's annoying. And as a Dex Ran/Rog/SD, I can attest to two things...

The char CAN deal lots of damage [I went on a killing spree last night, brought on by too much OOC listening to election results], and PoA doesn't give much opportunity for animal empathy. The best effect of the latter, I'm guessing, is that the bears leave my char alone.

Oh, and thirdly, HIPS is cool too...

After dying 3 or 4 times today redid my char.
Now Serill Swift.
Rogue 2/ Ranger 1.

What a difference. I went through rat area with little problems at all.
