Sundering Too Easy

As far as backup weapons go...I would rule every character carries at least a dagger on them...heck that's what you eat with!!

I don't really get what the big deal is.

As a DM, if my group went sunder-happy, I would simply ensure that 90% of their treasure allocation was in the forms of weapons in enemy hands, and then let them decide whether or not to continue abusing sunder.

Sunder is not really abusable. It's just too weak a tactic.

It is a big deal because the DM's plan for his favorite medium-size weapon-wielding BBEG can 'sundered' with a single action. Most DM's prefer their BBEG's to go out with a bang, not with a weaponless whimper.

If they specifically protect their vulnerable BBEG's against this tactic, they take away one of the few times that Sunder can be really useful.

Your solution also sounds a bit adversarial to me, BTW.
