Super Bowl 43 Reactions

LightPhoenix

First Post
I didn't see a thread on the Super Bowl in general, so I thought I'd start one.

First off, I couldn't believe how many flags were thrown. Not just that, but most of them were stupid errors neither team should have been making. There was a ton of fighting on the field too... very unsportsman-like. I could not believe Harrison did not get thrown out for punching the Cardinal player (didn't catch who it was). That's a call that's going to be debated. That was awful.

I'm sad the Cardinals didn't win, but the only reason they were really in it were all of the mistakes the Steelers made. They got it together in the second half, but it wasn't enough. I think the right team won.

The best moment of the night? Madden commenting that the Cardinals owner (I think it was Bidwell) was "in the box jacking off." Seriously, does the man listen to himself talk? I almost fell out of my chair laughing at that.

Second best moment was the Boss doing the groin slide into the camera, and his face afterward making sure the guy was okay. After much discussion, we're pretty sure had the camera not been there, he very well might have gone off the stage.

Worst moment was easily the punching. Harrison should have been ejected for that.

Second worst - GoDaddy commercials. My friend's four/five-year old daughter was in the room for the first one... thankfully it went over her head (I think). They're just so awful.

Biggest pet peeve - the Chuck commercial. A flat plane is still 2D, a line is 1D. For a supposedly dorky show that's something they should have gotten right.

Favorite commercial - Conan O'Brien. That was utterly absurd, and I loved it.

The Super bowl was tonight?:p

I watched it. I thought it was a good game. One of the best I've seen in awhile. The commercials were nothing too special. I think the Wipe Out show at halftime on ABC was better. Mmmm cheerleaders. I've really started changing the channel during halftime.

I was watch with a child that referred to a touchdown as a homerun. That was the highlight. Her mom was not a big fan of the game but asked a lot of questions. I felt so smart for knowing the answers. Like what was that thing on the Ref's hand. After a discussion about the whistle, she said no his other hand. I said it's how he keeps track of what down they're on. He moves it from finger to finger to keep count. That's how it was explained to me anyway.

I agree the fighting was a bit much. There should not have been that much tension between these two teams. It's not like they were rivals.

Gotta admit, I'm fairly pissed off that the Cardinals couldn't have gotten another 5 points. This makes Superbowl #6 for the Steelers.

Just once, I'd like the Cardinals to win one.

I was rooting for the Cards, too- but regardless, it was going to be a history-making game.

There were some stupid penalties by both teams...but also some bad calls by the refs. That "roughing the passer" on the Cards in that drive that was extended by that and 2 other personal fouls was particularly ticky-tack. The only way that guy couldn't have hit Big Ben was if he changed the rules of physics.

Other than that- excellent game. Once they got in gear, the Cards gave as good as they got. Fitzgerald proved he's at least on his way to earning that appellation that was hung on him by the press: The Most Dangerous Weapon in Football. It took a while, but he finally showed why he's among the league's elite.

The difference really was that first-half ending, Superbowl-record setting interception. Great play from start to finish.

I hope next year's game can live up to the standard set by this one and the previous... I mean, 2 consecutive SBs that literally go down to the last few seconds to be decided? AWE-freakin'-SOME!

If anything, the Cards proved they deserved to be there and played a great game. I hope they can hold that momentum going into next season.

Of course, the Buffalo Bills are going to win the Super Bowl next year, but still... :D

I was pulling for the Steelers in the interests of logic reasserting itself in the NFL and the better team winning the game. Until late in the 4th quarter, this seemed like a sure thing.

I was rooting for the Cards but had to hand it to the Steelers. Three guys on the obvious go-to-guy and still couldn't stop him from making the play? Bah.

That 100 yard int return by Harrison was amazing. Yes, he was a jerk, but that return is going to be on every Super Bowl highlight reel for all time.

I know nothing about American Football, but it is fun reading this comments and trying to work out what on earth might have been going on in the game :)

I agree with these. Groin slide was hilarious, Harrison should have been ejected, and Chuck definitely lost geek points.

Other than that, I thought it was a shame that the interception-for-100-yard-TD-return was aided by an illegal block, and I thought the last play of the game should have been called an incomplete pass.

I did root for the Steelers, though, so I'm glad they came out on top (though I was surprised it was so close).
