Supergirl is Coming to Smallville
The DC Comics character will be joining her cousin's TV series.
by Eric Goldman

June 11, 2007 - In the past couple of years Smallville has added more and more familiar DC Comics characters to the series, as we've met versions of Martian Manhunter, The Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Brainiac. Now another familiar character will be coming to the series, in the form of Supergirl.

According to The CW's press release, "On Smallville, the seventh season premiere kicks off with the arrival of Supergirl, whose name is Kara, as Clark's (Tom Welling) 19-year-old cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother. Kara possesses all of Clark's powers and one he doesn't yet have -- she can fly! Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak that puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her onto Lex's (Michael Rosenbaum) radar. In addition, she takes a romantic interest in Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore)."

Casting for the role of Supergirl is currently underway.

 Ay Madre Dios! Sounds like they're basing her character on the Kara Zor-El who currently appears in the new Supergirl comic. You know, the one with the exposed midriff and the angsty emo attitude? Argh. And with Jeph Loeb being one of the producers of the show (and the one who in fact brought her back in the pages of Superman Batman), it seems that this will be the case. :\

Personally I think they jumped the shark a long time ago.

I think getting rid of Whitney changed the show negatively, and things got a lot worse once PETE left. I have stopped watching it since then.

As it is now, they just rename the show to "Lanaville"

I think it jumped a long time ago myself but just not sure when, think it was one of the times they did not kill off Lana...for good.

Another female on the show, is Chole gone for good? Just, wish they would look at Heroes and take the show up a few pegs.

I wouldn't mind seeing Kara on the show. I wish they'd be a little clearer on Kryptonians or quasi-Kryptonians with flying, or at least why some do and some don't, but display all the other powers.

Clark - No, but floats in his sleep
Fake Kryptonian Kara - Yes
Posessed Kal-El/Clark - Yes
Zod's Minions - No
Brainiac (imitating other Kryptonian powers) - No
Zod posessing Lex - Yes
Rya - No
Bizarro - Yes
Kara Zor-El - Yes

If they're going to have Supergirl flying, I'd be fine with them abandoning the "No Tights, no Flights" policy and just let Clark fly.

I will be interested to see Kara introduced in a way that will have her and Clark this much closer in age, when compared to the comics.
