Supergirl on Smallville

I think Brown J. just likes to say "jump the shark" :p

There is a great irony about the term "jump the shark", which today implies the pinnacle point that a show goes down hill.

In Happy Days, Fonzie jumped the shark in Season 5, but there were a total of 11 seasons of Happy Days.

So fans still loved it. I know I love it (and have seen most of em).

I wouldn't mind seeing Kara on the show. I wish they'd be a little clearer on Kryptonians or quasi-Kryptonians with flying, or at least why some do and some don't, but display all the other powers.

Clark - No, but floats in his sleep
Fake Kryptonian Kara - Yes
Posessed Kal-El/Clark - Yes
Zod's Minions - No
Brainiac (imitating other Kryptonian powers) - No
Zod posessing Lex - Yes
Rya - No
Bizarro - Yes
Kara Zor-El - Yes

If they're going to have Supergirl flying, I'd be fine with them abandoning the "No Tights, no Flights" policy and just let Clark fly.

I will be interested to see Kara introduced in a way that will have her and Clark this much closer in age, when compared to the comics.

Maybe Kara will be the one to teach Clark how to fly. I mean I don't think Clark knows he can fly. Just like he didn't know he had X-ray vision before it started happening.

Hmm... well, after season 5 we get Pinkie Tuscadero, and surely you can't love seasons 10 and 11, with no Richie, the addition of Ted McGinley as Roger, the fake Joanie and Chachi team of Flip and KC, etc.

But I'm with you that the original jumping of the shark was really prior to the series' peak, which was probably around season 7 or 8.

And Smallville? Just gets better and better. This last season was the best yet.

EDIT: Oof, Roger appeared in season 8. Maybe season 5 was the peak.

That's because the producers were stupid - for the last four seasons that had Cathy Silvers on the set as Joanie's friend Jenny Picallo, and the actresses real life father Phil Silvers was hanging around all the time - yet they only used him briefly in a single episode. He could have added some real life to that show at that point.

I think the term jump the shark has come to mean the point where a show will try anything, not neccessarily when it is getting bad (though they often seem to coexist).

Smallville has turned into a decent show, i neither rave (well except the bizzaro thing) or rant about it too much.

That is kind of what I was going for. Maybe it is because I don't read the comics but Supergirl has never seemed like a good addition to superman. I've watched the movies and seen the TV shows and that is what I base my impressions on. The only supergirl I really have familiarity with is the horrible movie. For all that smallville has been about a more realistic (so to speak given a superhero show) take on superman they are now addng a permanent flying cast member and one that doesn't have good past media exposure.

Maybe they are thinking about a spin-off.
