Superman Returns poster!

I vaguely recall Sir Ian McKellen saying that no actor of the correct age could ever possess the pectorals Magneto has in the comics...

I don't see where all this 'skinny' thing is coming from in this poster (in the first photo divulged, yes, but not here). The low-cut belt even adds the illusion of a pot belly!

Brandon Routh is pretty bulky (judging by how he looks when dressed as Clark), and he wears a muscle suit. But Superman's costume *will* streamline anything short of Mr. Olympia-level muscles (i.e. Arnold in Conan).

Actually, I read somewhere that he DOESN'T wear a muscle suit.

Actually, Christopher Reeve was somewhat more muscular when he filmed the Superman films than Brandon Routh is, but it's interesting how he got that way.

When Reeve landed the role, he pretty much had the same physique as Routh now has. The film's producers considered using padding under the Superman suit, but Reeve felt uncomfortable with the idea of not being able to fill out the suit himself. So the producers instead sent him to England to work out at David Prowse's (yes, that David Prowse ;) ) gym, and after some time became muscular enough to fill out the suit without the need for any padding.

I recall Margot Kidder in an interview on the Superman DVD saying how she found Reeve too skinny for the role. But when he came back from England, she was ready to throw herself at his feet, saying how much of a he-man he'd become. :p

But back on topic, I find that to be a lovely poster, and totally inline with Bryan Signer's vision for the film, that Superman is a messiah returning to save the Earth. Question though, is that a photo or painted? Cause it almost looks like an Alex Ross painting to my eyes.

The costume makers said over at Newsarama (can't find the link now, sorry) that there's a subtle muscle padding in the suit.

I don't think you are going to find anyone as ripped as Supes is drawn, at least not outside of professional weightlifters. And how many of them can act?
