Survival: a suitable goal unto itself?

referencing early on in this thread, i tanked with a DMM cleric, it was pretty fun. although as soon as the DM found out i was large sized (righteous might) all the hallways suddenly became 5ft X 5ft. thats ok i showed him the squeezing rules. i ended up having more to worry about from the party than i did from any of the monsters, the conditions of the dungeon sorta pitted us against each other, not quite sure how it came about i just remember sleeping in the corner with a skull watch to keep my armor and maul from getting stolen, and having to preface every encounter by buffing myself against fire from the wizards' "accidentally" placed fireballs. and since everyone needed healing i started charging them. (it irks me when everyone makes characters [not knowing there will be a cleric] and STILL doesnt bring potions or a wand of cure light wounds for themselves.)
