Fistandantilus's status after the destruction of his body (when he tried to open the Portal and it blew up in his face) has been described in a lot of ways, but in the original "Dragons of Hope" adventure he is explicitly stated to be a demilich. As far as I'm concerned, that's good enough.

The adventure preceded any detailed description of him in the books, so if there was altering being done, it was the books what done it. However, the books do call him a lich at least once (this is one of the Second Generation novellas, so not as canonical as Legends/Chronicles, but it was written by Weiss and Hickman).

To be clear, all this is about the weird netherworld state he was in when he contacted Raistlin during Raistlin's Test. At that point, he seems to have been a demilich. The Fistandantilus of pre-Cataclysm days was certainly alive.

To those saying that Tam lacks ambition, he came up with a method to basically rewrite the whole reality, with him as its supreme ruler. If that's not ambitious, Idk what it is.
