Sweet Cover Art?

100 percent agreement. The Otus covers for the Moldvay/Cook Basic & Expert sets sum up the essence of D&D to me.

I also love the 1e AD&D PHB cover by Dave Trampier (and his illustration 'Emirikol the Chaotic' in the DMG).

Here's a couple...

Dragon #189

I'm currently putting together "The Art of Dragon: 30 Years of the World's Best Fantasy Art" for Paizo, and I've been looking through the unadulterated transparencies for a lot of the old "classic" Dragon covers. The piece I quoted above is notable because what you see is only a third of the final piece, which is absolutely incredible and is absolutely going in the book.

The one you posted below it and the Daniel Horne piece at the top of the thread are also in there.

Ok, I shouldn't have posted until I read the whole thread.

All but one or two of the Dragon covers posted to this thread will be in the book. :)

Planescape's Lady of Pain logo is one I've always loved (in all it's rusted glory).

Sabre River (the old D&D module) is another great one. And I agree that Dungeon/Dragon have too many great covers to count.

Cool stuff in this thread :).

For non-d20, I still have a soft spot for the old Runequest 2nd. edition cover:

I also love Frazettas :):

Monte already mentioned Spell Treasury.

But I also loved the cover for Mystic Secrets.

I still love the cover of Arcana Unearthed with its effect of different surfaces.

To name at least one WotC title, I also like the cover of the Shining South :D.

Agreed. I have a belt buckle of the Lady of Pain's head (complete with all the blades) that TSR made a small number of them. Very glad I was able to get one of those while they were for sale as I've never seen them on ebay.

Very cool.

Is there a picture of it out there somewhere...?

I was always fond of RK Post's cover of the Alternity Rule Books. When you placed the books side by side they completed a larger picture. The graphics coordinator is listed as Paul Hanchette. I am assuming that it was his idea and Post's execution that made that a rockin' cover.

I tend to enjoy the cover that is created with traditional mediums like oils, acrylics, and water colors (or at least looks like it was made that way). I have Kieth Parkinson's Dragon 137 cover hanging on the wall in my studio:) I love that impasted painting stlye.
I like the alternity covers too. The Covers for the various Dark•Matter products were pretty awesme too (Xenoforms is my favorite).

The cover art for the Dark Sun boxed set is pretty cool too (though, honestly, I prefer the half of the cover image that isn't actually on the cover of the box). the Slave Tribes cover is nice too.

The various covers for the WarCraft RPG are pretty cool too. I haven't seen the covers for the WoW RPG, but if samwise did those too, then they're probably awesome as well.

And honestly, the book-cover style covers of the 3.0 core books were great too. It just got really old, really fast after that.

The old 2E FR Guide, I forget the name, but had the woman on the unicorn. Always caught the eye for me. Otherwise yeah, most of the others I'd pick are dragon covers from above. Currently, I think Eberron's had some very good art, but the WotC book cover style doesn't really show them off.
