Swordmage? Why not a Hammermage?

Kind of convoluted, but would Arcane Implement Proficiency to get Pact Blades work, with a Pact Hammer?

As for houseruling? For just you, and just your character, I don't really get any balance issues. If you wanted to create a world of them, and make them commonplace, then it would make sense to look at possible balance interactions.

If your DM is game, go for it. I really, really like the flavor of it.

PS - I'm remaking my 3.5 Kobold Rogue as an Assasin, so I totally get the classes not matching up 100%. I also get really liking an old character!

Just an update-

We've just houseruled it to ALL HAMMERS ALL THE TIME. The only problem is that I have to change a couple of numbers on the power cards and the character sheet that the official character creator puts out, but otherwise all is well.

The whole reason for the houserule was to try to find the best way to represent a 3rd edition (not even 3.5) Wizard (Abjuration Specialist) in 4E. Some of you may recall that in 3E, a wizard could get a substantially high AC via stacking Mage Armor, Shield, and using a mithril buckler (with up to +5 enhancement) and still have only a 5% spell failure chance.

The idea was to create an arcane magic using dwarf who was all about strong defense. Spellsword seemed to be a natural, and fit the original character idea pretty well. The only thing missing are some of the big area effect spells that were a 3rd ed wizard's bread and butter, but I have enough blasts/bursts to keep me happy for now, and he is only 6th level after all.

Oh, I should mention that I've also taken the liberty of renaming many of the powers. I went beyond just changing "Sword" or "Blade" to "Hammer" and just got all dwarfy on the names. Pity the official character generator doesn't let you rename powers.
