More proof it's a bad rule.

Sigh, more proof that many people don't understand logic.

I have no real opinion on the AL rule. But I do know that citing a result you don't like is not sufficient to prove a rule is bad. :)

It wasn't an appeal to logic, it's a game, logic has limited use, it was an appeal to missed opportunities.

Yep, missed opportunities to ruin the game for other players. We definitely need more of that in Organized Play.

I think there is room for an improvement on the rule. I think the rule's basic concept is very wise. It drastically reduces the pressure on new players to feel like they need to invest a lot to keep up. It helps avoid the Magic The Gathering phenomenon in that respect.

However I've seen you make a good case for allowing more races from multiple books. I think there is some sense in that as well. Race is a choice only made at first level. It's not like racial choices expand in new and unexpected ways over levels...the number of rules in play with a race is pretty limited and known from the get go.

I dunno, maybe some compromise can be found in AL. Perhaps you can gain the right to choose a race from one book and everything else from another if you've completed levels one through twenty with a single character? That will drastically reduce the pressure on new players, while giving something more satisfying to those who are more advanced?
