Being virtually shoo'd out the door by her urgent employer, Tamarie takes a moment to consider those still in the inn, her piercing amber eyes scour the dim light. "Are there any strong... you know... warrior types unhired? I feel like we're missing something, here," she asks of Shem, despite his apparent haste to get the mission started.

Aradra nods as the wizard greets him. "Well met Heinrich. I have had the pleasure of meeting many wizards. Their advice has saved my life on more than 1 occasion."

He turns back to Larissa and asks "What brings you all the way out to Venza? Are you a traveling champion, like Melisande is?" Aradra's head jerks back to the private room he had exited earlier, clearly indicating one of the two people who can be seen still talking in the open door.

~In a Private Room~

At Melisande's offer, the venzan woman seems a little surprised. However, a slow, creeping smile takes over, and she replies, "Sure... for just a little while. I'd love to learn some tricks of the trade, if I can." With that, Charity reaches into her pocket and produces a cord to tie her hair back properly, and nods in assent as the two head out back.

Behind the Dunn Wright Inn, Charity warms up with Melisande's offered blade, getting the basic feel of it and executing a number of textbook strikes before finally approaching. Even as she approaches to indicate she is ready, it's clear she has the basics of handling the weapon and footwork already in place, albeit entirely Venzan in style. Lifting the sword, she offers a salute of respect, then speaks. "Alright, I think I'm ready if you are."

"I am afraid I have not met Melisande," replies Larissa, looking at the doorway the ranger had indicated. "But my Lady does not guide Her servants so closely." The priestess smiles. "It is Her belief that all mortals have the seeds of courage and victory in them, and it is ultimately the duty of the soul to nurture them. To give such guidance to Her servants would be to cheat them of that."

She looks at Aradra speculatively. "Are you a follower of the saints?" she asks.

Melisande was not wearing her customary platemail, but many of her other magical items were still about her person. This included the somewhat out of place jingasa hat that looked like she was wearing an overturned wok upon her head.

She had drawn out the two blades she carried, both falchions. Hers was made of adamantine and finely crafted. She had handed the second, also finely crafted but made of mundane steel, to Charity.

Since they were ready, Melisande said, “These falchion are well made. Unlike a longsword, they are meant to be used two handed though. You need not worry about hurting me, so do your best. I shall be able to heal any wounds we suffer in sparring.”

“Let’s begin.”


The champion of Helerion was much more experienced and her weapon of choice was the falchion too. Melisande fought defensively, using the two-handed blade to counter Charity’s swings more often than simply trying to dodge them. It also became quite clear that Melisande’s bladework was much faster, able to take advantage of more openings with lightning quickness.

But since it was instructional, the experienced paladin never carried through on any of those openings and just delivered a touch of the flatter side of the blade. Even so, Charity was able to get a few cuts on Melisande, drawing blood. Not many compared to the bruises she received, but a couple t show that she was learning.

After a short while, they finished and Melisande put her hands on Charity to call upon Helerion to heal the minor injuries. Then she did the same for herself.

“Let me demonstrate a few of those strokes…” Melisande proceeded to show some of the slashing patterns she used during the sparring and had Charity repeat them. The instruction went on for a number of minutes.

“There, perhaps you have found our time to be useful in using a blade two-handed. As you can see you need to be stronger and faster with the blade, but practice and experience will ensure that happens.”

Because, even fighting defensively and going for non-lethal damage only, Melisande has attacks of +15/+10/+5 vs. a best case AC of 18. Hans Mancini bustled into the tavern and made his way to the bar. He was an average build human with a bourgeois to lower noble look about him. He was armed with a rapier on his belt.

He spoke with Grog and showed him some parchment. The half-orc jabbed a meaty figure towards a bulletin board saying, “Jus tack it up ova there. Dey read it or dey don’t.”

Hans looked over at the board and displayed his parchment in the center. Then he left.

Aradra nods. "I do not worship one saint in particular, but rather pray to any who listen. Given how many there are, only those who have l directly come across via priests and priestess. I had seen Lady Kamara's symbol on one of the healers when I was in the hospital after one of my scouting trips." He points to the scar over his right eye. "Specifically this one."

The scar that cut vertically through his right eye. It appears that some sort of clawed creature had scratched Aradra, and given how deep the scar is, most likely had nicked Aradra's eye as well. How it still is there seems something sort of a miracle.

Out of the back room, a large black wolf started walking over towards where the 3 of them were talking. Aradra saw the wolf approaching and adds "May I also introduce Shadow, my friend and companion for so long." The wolf looks up at the two his master was speaking with, and upon seeing Heinrich, gives another loud snort. Aradra looks up confused at Heinrich and asks "What did you do to make him mad?"

Yosephus Errol Smithe, Cleric of Amenthia, the Healing Hand

Upon seeing the man enter, talk to Grog and then post the parchment Yosephus gets curious. He stands from his chair and crosses over to the bulletin board and reads the notice. The aasimar speaks softly to his self. "Ah! The possibility of a job. But I cannot apply alone. I will wait and see who else reads the notice." Hoping that others will be interested the cleric spots a table and saunters over to it. He sits down in a chair that has a good view of the bulletin board and waits.
