[Tavern] Tower's Shard '09

The tiefling walks to the table. "Can I sit?" he asks before sitting down.

"My name is Gareth. I'm the owner of a few shops around the city. My trade is in fabrics and clothing. A few years back, during the war, things wasn't going good, and I had a member of my family stuck in the front line, wounded. I decided to hire a group of mercenary to go search him as the army couldn't do it. As I had not enough money to pay them, I decided to pay him with a family trinket, an amulet of collection we had. I told them to keep it as long as they could, as I would be ready to bought it back at high price once I would be back into business. Sadly, I lost track of them... until now.

I've finally found there hideout. Also, all point that the group of adventurers have gone missing while doing a job. They haven't been seen for a few years now, and they usually show up twice a year in this tavern. I would like to hire a group of capable mercenary to go to there hideout and take back my family heirloom."

[sblock=ooc]Narvala's passive insight is 24, so she should probably catch if there's anything in his story that's not on the up and up. Unless he's an extraordinarily skilled liar, anyway.[/sblock]

"Please, sit." She says.

"I take it you're assuming the mercenaries you hired have decided to keep your heirloom for themselves, rather than having suffered some ill fortune?" She asks.

[SBLOCK=OOC]The tiefling seems honest and his story seems the truth.[/SBLOCK]

"No, I think the rumor are true. They probably disappeared during a contract, they are probably dead, or I would have heard of him. It's a sad faith, but I think it is part of the mercenary business.

I've been trying to contact them for two years and I had no a single sign of any activity from them, and there main base of action have been Sharn during their actives years. They might have retired and get out of business, but it looks like unlikely to me."

"Do you have any suspicions as to what your friends ran into?" She asked. She was, after all, quite clearly a sister of the Temlar's Order within the Church of the Silver Flame. Well, perhaps someone less familiar with church heraldry would not recognize the order. But adventuring members of the Flame's clergy usually were associated with the Templars; she wasn't the only one who preferred fighting on the front lines against evil -- and she considered Karrnath's undead legions evil, no matter what the Karrns thought -- to spreading the word of the Flame as the Friars were called to, or to the necessary but mundane life of parish work and church administration that the Ministers did.

Having finished demolishing the table-top tower, and devouring all of the edible components, the gnoll seemed to notice the tiefling and the human sitting a few tables over.

I stood and ambled over to that table, and stood looming over them, perhaps just a bit too close... Picking its teeth with a small leftover bone, it gave a soft, inquiring growl. "What is name of group? Sweetness might have heard of them, yep yep yep. Don't want to go toss their den, then have them come back from long trip to Xen'drik just next week. The Watch wouldn't like that, yep yep yep..."

The tiefling nods at the gnoll. "The group is named the Stormcrow. They are a group of three mercenaries. And for what happen to them, I can't tell. I have heard so many rumors about it. Some are sending them to Xen'drik, other would send them to help the Gatekeepers. Another have sent them to the Mournland... who knows. Your bet is as good as mine on that one."

[SBLOCK= History or Streetwise DC 7, roll with your best skill only] Illugi Swordbreaker, the Emerald Warlock, and Agera of the Shadow Face led a mercenary group called Stormcrow Company. Each had a storied adventuring background before they joined their strengths, but those stories are as nothing compared to the tales of the exploits of Stormcrow Company. The mercenaries made their base in old tunnels they found beneath a rocky tor in the wilderness.
[SBLOCK= History or Streetwise DC 12] Though Stormcrow Company was credited
with cleaning the goblin tribes near the Mournland and killing a cult of Khyber who threatened some villages near Wroat, the adventurers also accepted contracts to assassinate house members, kidnapped a noble in return for a ransom of questionable relics, and even burned down an entire village on a lark while passing through. In the end, they were feared more than revered.
[SBLOCK= History or Streetwise DC 17] Five full years have passed since any member of Stormcrow Company has been seen, and that sighting (of Illugi Swordbreaker taking ship in an a Q'barra port) is probably only rumor. Each year that passes with no news from Stormcrow Tor is a year that nearby keeps and walled villages give thanks. Anyone with an opinion on the topic now believes Stormcrow Company took on a challenge it was unequal to and came to a bad end in some far off land or echo dimension.[/SBLOCK][/SBLOCK][/SBLOCK]

I didn't roll until I opened up the first section, because Narvala can't fail a DC 7 history check.

Narvala's trained in History, kind of smart, and rolled very well :)

Also, what's a nombe? (dictionary.com didn't turn up anything)

"I've heard of them." The priestess says. "Skilled, but I think I would deal with such only if I had no other choice."

Perhaps that had been true for the tiefling, though. He was clearly a man of some property, but Narvala knew quite well that very few had the wealth and connections she had been born to, and both the powers she'd developed in the Flame's service and her experience as an officer had only increased both.

"I agree, and during the war, most able people were fighting, leaving very few choice for mercenaries." replies Gareth.

[SBLOCK=OOC]A typo, I wanted to say noble.[/SBLOCK]

The gnoll nodded its head in acknowledgment. "Sweetness heard of Stormcrows, yep yep yep. Bad bunch- not badder than me, but bad enough. No stories in years though- probably all dead. You know where their lair is?" Almost reflexively, the gnoll licked its lips, as if already anticipating a fresh meal...

OOC: [sblock] Streetwise +11 =22 ; roll Roll Lookup [/sblock]

A tall young orc enters the Tower's Shard. His skin a paler shade though his underbite and other facial features definitely make him stand out as an orc. He carries a large vicious looking axe. He nods in a friendly gesture towards the tiefling, gnoll, and human woman and takes a separate seat at the bar. "Glad I found this place, this city of your's is huge! Name's Gogmorthak, I'll have an ale." he says politely to Brews. His voice is more cultured that most would give him credit for given the outlandish looks and obvious heritage.

ooc: Gogmorthak d'Tharashk, orc barbarian.
