Teleportation Effects

Should I ever run another DnD campaign I would implement something similar.

I had two possible ideas for altering teleport mechanics:

1. When you teleport you dont automatically appear at your location. You spend a short period of time (3 rounds or so) travelling at great speed through the Astral Plane. When you arrive you do so in a large eruption of magical light and thunder which grows over the course of your travel.

2. You cannot teleport to an area you have not specially prepared with a magical diagram costing 100g or so.

I was less bothered about the effect of Dimension Door than Tekleport. I do struggle to see how any society which has lived with the various uses for magic for any period of time hasnt developed measures to block or expose a variety of efects such as:

Teleportation
Invisibility
Shapechanging
Flight
Major creation
Mind Control

These are probably the major ones which really affect commerce and defence, something any society or kingdom will be interested in.

A society that has lived with magic for centuries would eventually develop magic control laws, magic police, and magic items that emanate a permanent antimagic field.

I agree, and yet none of the default settings ever seem to take account of the issue.

Fantasy Kingdoms are still wasting their time and money building castles with flat accessible roofs in a world where any old schmuck can slap a Spider Climb on his ninja stealth assassins to sneak in and open your gates for the waiting army.
