Tell me about Loxo in your World:)

I'd say the Loxo were very heavily influenced by the alien invaders from Niven & Pournelle's book Footfall.

BTW it's a great read and has does an excellent job of presenting an alien culture...

I found these things to be complete filler. Maybe I'll have the thri-keen wage a war of extinction against them as the plains can only support so many life forms after all...

Sweet and tasty from the bbq pit I tell you!

I've used them. They live in the ruins of an ancient city, deep in the heart of a dead continent that is overrun with ice and snow. The city itself is suprisingly warm, and the Loxo tend to the semi-ethereal rainforest that covers the ruined buildings. They have strong druidic tradition that serves the forest, as well as several warrior tribes who serve the druids and do their best to ensure the isolated city isn't disturbed by outsiders.

I picked the Loxo because I wanted a humanoid that was a sharp contrast to the frost-born orc and goblin tribes that had dominated up to that point, and the loxo served admirably as both exotic and tropical creatures in such as setting.

Sadly they didn't get anywhere near the airtime in the campaign that I'd hoped they would, although the PC's did encounter the Epic-Level Druidic Yaji (Psionic Lion/Elephant creature from GR Masters of the Mind) that was the Loxo's primary ally and source of information of the outside world.

'Fer serious! One of the best books these guys have written together (and they've written some damn fine books together). I suspect it is one of the reasons that I find the Loxo so cool. I haven't had the chance to use them yet, but I am itching to trot them out in my next campaign.

I think the idea of the bifurcated trunk as fine manipulation digits is a good one. The arms do the heavy lifting.

I would probably make these guys sort of "noble savages of the plains" beset by smaller, but more numerous bad guys. Probably carnivores to contrast them with the Loxo. I can see some neat adventure ideas with the carnivores setting wildfires in the Loxo grazing lands in an attempt to starve them out or bring them to battle against superior numbers.

I would love a chance to play a Loxo PC though. I could almost see them fitting in well in Arcana Unearthed. There is already plenty of precedent in that system for both large and "animal humanoid" PC's. Hmm...Loxo Greenbond...

Wow...I didn't know that Niven and Pournelle had any other books together. I loved The Mote in God's Eye to death, one of the best SF stories ever IMO.

I really like Loxos, but I'm partial to any creature who has its design roots in a real-world animal. Aside from that, They have an interesting concept behind them. I don't have books in front of me, but they are the elephants with rage abilities, right?

Whoah! Dude...[/Keanu]

They've done a bunch of collaborations together. Oath of Fealty is good and so is Inferno. But you have GOT to read Lucifer's Hammer (all time best "Comet hits the Earth" story ever) and Legacy of Heorot (written also with Steven Barnes). They've done a number of other books together and with other authors, but those last two are simply some of the best sci-fi ever written. You will not regret adding those to your collection. If you do, I'll refund your money!

Sorry for the hijack.

And the Keanu.
